i feel you on this one, but i've never really been to bridgeport.

i grew up in uncasville before the time of the casino's. when i go back now to visit i'm shocked at how depressed the area is doing. the local economy has not benefited AT ALL from the casino's.
it is sad,
but at the same time good for the indian tribes.
i remember when foxwoods was just a bingo hall.

Welcome Chickensista! You are definitely not alone. There are a bunch of us from CT and surrounding areas on here.
Churkenduse-don't know Bridgeport well at all. I went a few times in the 80s when I was in college in New Haven (SCSU) because my roommate's brother went to school there.
Ratlum-I know what you mean about the changes in Uncasville. I remember the Bingo hall being all there was too. Driving down there no it's like driving into Oz or something!

There are a lot of chickens in Weston, believe it or not. I work on a few
of the multimillion dollar estates (generators) and hear roosters crowing
all the time.

Welcome to BYC!!

Bridgeport used to be all farms, well before my years. I was born in 70 and
Bridgeport was a pit back then too. Not many Italians live there now.
There are some nice sections but the taxes are obsene.

Wow, the more I'm on here the more and more I find people that are from Montville. I'm still here, and your right about the casino, it deffiently isn't benifiting the town, and now they want to make mohegan sun bigger

. I wish Montville would just stay the small farm town its suppose to be.

Hi,

PupleChicken - too funny about hearing the roo's in Weston. Guess I'm hanging around the wrong crowd. LOL

Bridgeport seems cursed. No one seems to be able to bring it up - even with all the water front.

Also, I have a feather picking orp I'm not sure what to do with. I have 7 hens with naked butts - all from the orp. I don't think anyone else has the nasty habit because she still has a nice fluffy butt. Any thoughts? They have a fairly large space, and get to free range regularly. If she doesn't stop I'm going to have to get rid of her.

Thanks!

Chickens pick for a lot of different reasons. Use the search feature and you'll find
many answers. I would seperate her until the others grow their feathers back. Then
when you reintroduce the picker to the flock she will be low on the pecking
order. It should stop unless it's nutrition related.

Then again there is always the hatchet. Our roos and mental birds don't last too long
around here.

Purple Chicken,
I thought it could be Ca++. The food bin has a section for oyster shell, but I'm thinking the food just spills over it and covers it up. So I've started giving them more oyster shell and cooked egg shells(broken up).
I can't really separate her when its this cold. I have a rickety cage that is OK in the summer, but I think she'd freeze by herself in it. Only 3-sided protection...
So, is your hatchet for hire?LOL I keep going back and forth, and I'm not sure if I can do the deed. I've been trying to find someone to process chickens, because I would like to get meat birds in the spring. Does anyone know of any processors?
Thanks for all the help!
Terry

I have never gotten any of my chickens processed but there is a place in salem that will do it for you, I buy my meat there all the time, it's called Salem Prime Cuts and it's right near salem four corners on Rt. 85 next to the gas station.

Hi perfectly polish,
Thank you for the info! The place is almost 2hours from here... I'll give them a call. I was reading some other posts, and some processors will only accept minimum orders of 50! The trip would be worth it if they would take 15 birds or so. 50 is not in my realm of possibility.
