Hi There,

You want to make sure you get food grade. You usually can find it at an agway or sometimes TSC. I personally buy mine at agway and can't for the life of me remember how much it costs...sorry

I do use it and yes it cuts down on some bugs and kinda keeps it dry. For bugs I hang the vanillaroma car air freshners around my coop and pen and the flys stay away they hate that stuff for some reason. I on the other hand thinks it gives a nice pleasant smell when entering the chicken area

I have also seen and heard of ppl on here using EZ Dry for horses. They mix it in and it absorbs liquid and smell. I don't use it b/c I like to keep things the way the have been for years. Why fix it if it ain't broke

Thanks Beth. I went to the Agway in Middlefield on rt 66. They had DE but the bag had a warning "may be harmful to domestic animals" so I doubt that it was food grade. I didn't buy it. Maybe Shagbark has it. r

DE is all natural, no pestisides at all, it helps against mites, lice and smells, and they can eat the food grade one it gives them potasium i think, i cant remeber off the top of my head right now.

If you put DE in the bedding it helps dry up the chicken poop, kills bugs, helps keep oder down. If you put it in the feed it helps prevent parisites. Also sprinkled in the run and the chickens will dust bath in it. That will help with fleas and mites.
