TSC on Rt 6 out toward Farmington had chicks, not sure if they still do. It's true that there is a law that states you must get a minimum of 6. Also check out Back to Basics feed store on Rt 6 in Bristol toward Terryville. I know Dave has chicks still, I'm assuming they would have the same minimum too though. (DH won't let me in a feed store until chick days are over, B 2 B still had theirs last Sat.) I got my chicks from mypetchicken.com last year. Very happy with them, but the shipping is expensive. However, I would always recommend getting chicks from a fellow BYCer first! We can't have roosters in Bristol by City Ordinance so I'll never have baby chicks
Good Luck and have fun! oh and
Thanks, those were the places I was going to try.
TSC said to call every morning to see if they get them in and that they go quickly. I will have to check out B 2 B I haven't been there in a long time. I think dh is considering letting us do 6 if that is the rule. I am not sure we want that many, but hey we will see.
Do you know of any BYCers that have some? I keep checking the sale pages on here. We actually would like to give them to our kiddos for Easter so we don't want them just yet, which also gives us time to set up a coop/run/tractor and brooder (plus we are cheap/frugal and always give our kids pets that we want as gifts hence our dog the bday gift 2 years ago and the cat Christmas gift 11 years ago)
Is a tractor a good way to go in CT? In the winter it would be in one or 2 places, but with our house on 2 sides of it to help block wind. Any advise on a small coop/tractor that is good all year in CT would be more than welcome thanks.
Hi,
I live in Bethany, CT and always have chicks. Unfortunately I can not sex them until they are older. I also have some eggs under one of my first time broodies and I'm not sure if she has dedicated herself enough to actually get a good hatch rate. If all works out they should hatch in the next few days however I find when a broody does them it takes 24-25 days vrs. the 21.
I can make an offer of if you buy them and one turns out to be a rooster I will take them back since I do not have regulations in my town on roosters. THANK GOODNESS SINCE I HAVE 12!!!! lol I love them all and have a hard time giving them up
Take Care,
Beth
