On a side note it is not raining out at the moment!!!!

Now if I could only get my butt in gear and go outside to do chores

What is everyone up to this weekend in CT? (besides praying for a dry weekend..lol)

Very handsome peacock

Well we have baseball games for both boys tonight, 1 first thing tomorrow morning and then the rest of the weekend should at home with nothing much going on. Praying we can finish the coop, mow the lawn (ummm the weeds) and dh has about 3 cars coming to be worked on. So nothing super fun.

Beautiful peacock...I really wouldn't get anything done if I had him, would spend too much time watching him!

tonight-if Mother Nature cooperates-the Carnival is in Bethel and the kids want to go. Tomorrow-soccer for my son, then I get my chickies

And we have company coming tomorrow for dinner so I guess at some point I'll have to stop watching the little fuzzy butts to get some cleaning done. Sunday-Bethels Memorial Day parade and then a Cub Scouts picnic. No rain forecasted for Sunday, yay! Also need to treat my lilies; saw some red Asiatic lily beetles on them yesterday and this year I want to destroy the little buggers before they get too settled in and eat all my lilies!

AND my husband is about ready to start building the chicken tractor-he's fooling around with the Google Sketch Up program someone recommended on the 'coop design' pages, trying to get the details right. Then it will be off to the scrap wood bins at Home Depot and Lowes, and the clearance sections, to see if we can find any cheap materials.

What does everyone use for wire for their coops? What size/type for the sides of the run-I know it has to be predator proof, but what size squares will accomplish that? And what size squares for the vents in the coop, flooring, etc.?

SOOOO glad it's Friday. I'm absolutely NOT motivated to work for someone else today, too much of my own stuff to do this weekend!

I feel bad for your boys having to play baseball in this sloppy mess! Hopefully it will be the sunny 80 degree weather on Sunday like they keep talking about. I pray the weather men are wrong about the rain every other day though!!!

I love Carnivals and now that my daughter is all grown up we don't go anymore

Have some fun for me tonight!!!

For the Coop wire We use both chicken wire with kennel wire. Raccoons can chew threw chicken wire alone and weasels can squeeze through just kennel wire. So we do both. One suggestion is putting a solid top on the run b/c if you do not they will be in the mudd all the time. And right now I am having a heck of time getting the mud under control. I wish I put all roofs on my runs

Good luck with the coop building project!! Soo exciting!!! Did you get your babies yet? I think I remember you saying you were picking them up soon right?

HI Beth,
Yes carnivals are a lot of fun-if I can convince them they dont' need to play the $5 games to win 50 cent prizes!!

The coop will definitely be roofed-looking at tractor style where the coop runs the whole top length, and the run is the whole bottom length. I'm skeptical about the weight of the thing - but I'm not going to criticize my husbands design if that's what he wants to build! Worst case scenario the birds get a bigger coop than they absolutely need at the expense of it being harder to move, not a big deal I hope..

I pick up my chicks tomorrow! She has 4 of the 5 that I want ready; the 5th won't be available until next week. I may end up just picking a 5th from the selection she has tomorrow; my husband keeps looking at me out of the corner of his eye when I say 5 hens, and something tells me if I bring home just the 4 tomorrow, he'll decide that's enough and give me a hard time about getting the 5th next week! We'll see. Got the brooder set up last night, just need to stop at Agway for smaller feeders. We were originally going to use a big plastic dog crate for the brooder, then decided to use the 10 gallon aquarium at first since it will be easier to maintain a nice warm temperature. Once they get crowded in there we'll move to the bigger kennel for the brooder. Problem is I'd already bought the feed/water holders for the big kennel, and they don't fit in the tank!

Anyway, good luck with getting motivated to get out and work on your coops, and do something with all the mud. Right now my whole yard squishes when I walk... blech.

My plan for this weekend....spending the night at my mom's tonight with my daughter for some girl time (since my dad will be out this evening). Going to go get some chinese food and drinks. Tomorrow, my daughter is staying at my parents another night so that my husband and I can go out alone to celebrate our 13th wedding anniversary with a nice dinner. Sunday, I hope to get some more done on the interior of our new coop! Looking forward to this weekend!!

Maybe it's just me but I'm noticing a huge spider population this spring. I'm not talking about the cute little green ones I'm seeing a lot of dime sized hairy ones.
