Connecticut!

Well, since I don't have a roo we will have to arrange a blind date with one of your fellows in the spring. Some soft music, mood lighting and maybe some nice clover to set the mood...

Wow they are looking very pretty! They do not carry the gene as far as I know. I would contribute the off feathering to them still being a project

. Now that the color is established in your lav you would want to breed her back to a very nice LF black Cochin roo and try to get the type back to cochin looking birds. It really takes a long time to get a good end result but its sooo cool watching the offspring grow into the bird they are! I love playing chicken science

How sad. I imagine everyone in the family feels terrible even though it sounds like an accident. I get very nervous whenever our adult daughter brings her dog over. I lock up the chickens and make sure her dog is on a leash or crated but that is no guarantee. Our corgi has had to defend the birds against other neighborhood dogs that wander into our yard but I don't want him to get hurt either. Very sad day for you.

Does anyone else have chickens that insist on hanging out on the doorstep and peering in? I'm not sure if they're remembering when they were chicks and the brooder was inside, whether they want something from me (besides the treats they've already gotten today) or if they're just bored and curious... it's not like there's any bugs to scratch up from the concrete stoop!
The cat was annoyed - they were blocking his exit!!

I've heard that if you keep them in the house too long they will imprint to the house rather than the coop. I have a friend that says if she leaves the door open too long she turns around and her kitchen is full of chickens all perched on the backs of her kitchen chairs. Personally, i just think they miss you.

Rain, rain, go away ~

yes! My chicks peer into our sliding glass door. I don't think because they remember the sunroom -I think because they can see us through the glass and are just like "Hey!".

Well it's nice to think that they miss me-but when I'm on a conference call with clients (I work from home) and suddenly there's clucking in the background, no one seems to know what to say

At least they intimidate the cats so much that the cats won't open the door and let themselves out!
