I showed my DH & DD the photos, we are soooo happy for him.
I know he's in the best hands, and it is so great that he has a buddy too.

Your DH is absolutely right - very laid back. My DD would pick him up while freeranging multiple times daily and he never complained, obviously liking the attention and the "free rides" around the yard. He also luvs his neck to be pet.

aww @ the chicks peeping when squeezed, I would feel bad too!

Yes he definitely loves the neck rubs lol! I felt bad for him in QT by himself so my DH and I gave him more attn and he really liked it.

Glad you all got to see his picture. I will send more as he grows

Has anyone ever been out to the Common Ground High School/Farm in New Haven? They have chickens there and I feel I need to advocate for them, but am not sure how to go about it.

The chickens there have swolllen legs/feet, with obvious scaly mites on some. A couple look lame, so I'm guessing bumblefoot. A few of them have their behinds de-feathered and look most of the hens have bare backs from the roos (I know this isn't a crime in terms of chicken abuse, but it still shows a lack of flock management). When my daughter was going to summer camp there in July, I asked if these were rescue chickens - thinking that maybe these birds had come to them in this condition and they were in the process of rehabilitating them. The lady I spoke to said they were all hatched and raised right there at the farm/school. I know this is an "environmental" school, not an "ag" school, but they should still be taking care of their flock. I haven't had chickens nearly long enough to feel I can go in and tell them do this or do that with any authority. It just makes me sad for these birds. None of them have state vet testing tags, either - not that that is mandatory, but you would think that since they are around the public, and especially kids (do they use the eggs in their school cafeteria or sell them at their mini farmer's market??) that they would have that done.

Anyone can go onto the school grounds and see the animals... so if you are in New Haven.. stop by and see if you agree with me.

Hmm, I've never been so I can't say. But, now that you just said all of that I will be sure to stay the heck away from there in fear of bringing back the nasties

I made my daughter wear only one certain pair of sneakers to camp each day and made her take them off as soon as she got home. I considered burning them after camp..

(put them in washing machine instead).
