Hey guys! I made it home for Thanksgiving. I had a terrible time getting out of there because of a Doctor taking an attitude about releasing me without an "official" diagnosis. The test results won't be back until next week so he made a big deal and I had to wait until 2:00 for him to finally decide he would let me go. The specialist who did the test was very upbeat and thought I'd had a run in with ischemic (sp?) colitis due to the flu. The hospital doctor made a big fuss about all the horrible things it "could" be and warned me that I did not have anything near a "mild" case, blah, blah, blah. What a buzz kill he was! LOL! Anyway, I think the specialist knows better than Dr. Downer and am not worried about it. Just thankful to be home with my family. Happy, happy Thanksgiving everybody! I can't wait to get all caught up on what's going on with you guys. My eyes are still sensitive to light and it's not real comfortable to read but I'll catch up as my eyes allow.

Thanks, that's very helpful! I'm going to read that through and decide what to do about egg withdrawal. I only got 8 eggs today, so maybe it's not such a big deal. Still it bothers me to throw eggs away. Hmmm.

My turkey needs to spend some time in the sink in an ice bath, it's not thawed enough for me. I'll put it back in the fridge before I go to bed.

Hello everyone! Finally some time at home! Went to Aldi and Walmart this a.m. before the rush. Now I'm home and need to get started on the Carb-bonanza for tomorrow. Just our immediate family, but everyone wants a turkey dinner. I've delegated the side dishes, we'll see how it goes.

I found what I thought to be worms this morning during morning chores, so I decided to go this route. I went to Orscheln's this morning, and they had a generic brand called Noromectin, for 29.99/50ml. Hechicken, is the dose you used 4ml/gallon? I have the black rubber water pans, so I'll probably just put it in all of them. One day of that, and no withdrawal of eggs?

I have lights on a timer in the coop. 5 - 8 in the a.m., and the same at night. Out of the older chickens, only 3 have completely molted so far. I don't know how the light affects that, but I am going to cut the light back by about 30 minutes on each side to see if more will start molting. I've been getting around 10 eggs/day. I have 5 that just started laying this late summer/fall.

Hope Karen is feeling good enough to go home, and that her family helps her take it easy!

LoriO, I started multi-quoting but then saw you mostly got answers to your questions. I certainly do NOT proclaim to be an expert on the Ivermectin treatment - I read as much as I can but what you read on the internet is not always accurate. The source I read (the link you posted) suggested 4ml per gallon for 2-3 days, with no withdrawal. Josie has since explained why there should in fact be a withdrawal period. For me - THIS time - it was a moot point because of the 50 birds I treated, almost none were laying (combination of molt, juveniles and males). Ned (Royal Palm turkey) was so sick I'm not sure she would have lived another week, so he showed the most dramatic results. However I also had several hens who had enough roundworms they were expelling them in their poop so I knew I needed to do something for the whole flock. I withdrew all other water sources for the time I was treating so they had no choice but to drink the medicated water. Since the treatment, not only has Ned recovered completely, but the hens in whose poop I was seeing the worms, now seem to be clean as well.

Thanks, HeChicken. I'll probably treat and do the withdrawal. My paleo diet customers will need to get their 3 dz. eggs a week somewhere else for awhile! I do know which hen the worms came from, so I could just treat the one. But I bet if one has it they all do.

KarenS, I'm so glad to see you back, take it easy & let everybody else wait on you!

Just as I was putting my birds up for the night this evening I was in the coop giving them their BOSS & heard a chicken squawk outside & saw Jasmine chasing her. I hit the shock collar all the way up & that dog yelped & jumped clear off the ground. I can't remember if I told you all this or not, but if I did forgive me, I'm still recovering from vacation. Anyway, she slunk off away from the coop & I was able to go round up the hen she was after. It was my Buff Orpington & she is bad about hanging around outside when everyone else is already in for the night. I'm so glad I caught that dog in the act & showed her what the cost of chasing a chicken is. She is going to have that repeated until she learns to leave ALL of my birds alone.

Love all the Thanksgiving wishes! Sounds like everyone is starting off the day right! Looks like a lot of people are out hunting this morning! I need to go get everyone around and get ready to go. Right now, I have the kids up here to watch the parade! Just started!
