Hi Thndrdancr, Its hard to say how much we had, like you say, the wind drifted it up real bad. 6" to 8" easy thou. The 1\\2 of sleet under it made it a real challenge to get it off the roads. Way heavy and pavement to slick to push it.

I hope your birds survived the storm! Bill

We got about 6-8 inches, but with wind and drifts. I left work early so I could make it home. Now I'm not sure if I 'm snowed in or not. I guess I will find out soon!

We got about 5" here in Bonner Springs but there was a lot of sleet under that. The trees look great. But to be honest I really want it to melt fast. Winter is so old now!

We got none here in Wichita - yay! We got a little freezing drizzle and I almost took a tumble down my deck stairs, not realizing how slippery they were, when I went to lock up the coop for the night. Luckily I caught myself and took it much more carefully after that.

Gee whiz. I just found two leghorn pullets that spent the night in the storm perched on top of the coop run.

The door was open, they could have gone in. I'm not sure why they didn't.

I didn't do a head count when they went in because I was at work, then when I got home in the storm hubby went out to the barn, but I didn't. We both assumed they all went in as they have been doing.

Ivywoods, I understand your frustration. Had cold chickens standing in the rain and sleet yesterday! Don't know why - lights were on in the chicken coop, complete with fresh food and water and treats...

Do you guys ever have those moments of "why didn't I do that"? Hubby and I discussed putting sand in part of the chicken yard/run last fall and put it off. After dealing with the great midwest thaw last week and all the rain from yesterday, we have a muddy mess! Guess what we will be doing fairly soon?? Anyone else got great solutions for their run before we start hauling sand? Oh, I forgot, also up on the list is building a "porch" for the coop to give some cover from rain, hail, sleet and snow.

By the way, Baldwin only got about an inch yesterday. Lots of rain and sleet that melted when it hit, but we dodged the bullet of the big snow.

Its snowing again!

Big pretty flakes tho and not bad cuz not much wind, unlike yesterday.

I hear the frustration bout the chooks being out. My 3 silkies I can NOT get to go into their pen and no way am I crawling around on my belly under our big pine trees to try and find em in 6 inches of snow. One pretty splash roo is out, one sebright x hen, two others I havent identified. Well they were staying warm by staying in the dog house, but I put the cat out cuz the dog was trying to play too rough with him, he now has scared the chickens out of the dog house so he can stay warm and the dog has become an inside dog due to dog shooting folks down the road. lol Life in the country, oh my!

The peas made it great tho, altho they think the chickens in the next pen have better food than they do. I brought the lil one inside last night. He was so cold that soon as I tucked him in my coat, he didnt even kick, just snuggled.

What shall we name the lil guy?

My chickens wont walk in the snow. And if for heavens sake they get on the other side of the snow and the door; well they just sit there in rain snow and dark. Big frustrations some times getting to get over the snow and into the coop.
