Consolidated Kansas

Hey Trudi! It's been a ghost town here today. I am just disappointed in this pup because I did some personality tests on the pups and spent lots of time observing them to see which one met her requirements...not only that but spent lots of precious time on the phone. So the last minute she decides she isn't going to get one. I have sold all my pups so fast before, that I can't believe how lousy this is going. I really haven't done any advertising because they all sold so fast by word of mouth before.
It feels colder out there to me today than about any day so far this year. Sure hope tomorrow is warmer!! I've got tons I need to get done. I tried to send you an email this morning but my internet went down. I have your grey smooth breasted Sebbie now. Josie thought it would be more likely to breed than my young ones but my other boys won't let him join the group. I just hope one of them manages to figure out what to do!!
Got my first guinea eggs but it was from a young one that had no male with her. Maybe the others will kick in soon.

Danz sorry about your pups, I hate when people do that.
I got a huge egg today lol it was from my new hampshire. I will post a pic soon.
I made chicken saddles out of some fleece sleep pants that were too big. I like that I dont need to sew it. It took a couple trials but we figured it out and got all 11 that needed them all fitted and no one freaked out at all. Now they are all wearing a lovely snoopy christmas pattern lol.
I got 12 eggs today,, man they are coming in quick. I have 5 dozen cartons filled and one 18 pk filled and 6 in another dozen carton. Guess its time to go take eggs to family members.

It does seem cold out today...... I think because I am so ready for spring. I am DESPERATE to find some Sebbies! I knew this would happen to me :( everything seemed to lead us into needing to find homes for my critters, and now I sit here missing them more than I can even begin to explain. Silly, I know! I am just hoping to find a pair, and add goslings as I can. I see my lavender boy on Lindsey's Facebook and cry like a baby! I so thought my hubby was heading down the "cancer" road again - and got so scared. Please please keep me in mind if you hear of anything! :)

I am hoping to make a trip to Legg's Peafowl in Kansas City. I see that he has adults for sale and I really want a hen or two. Let me know if you are interested in going with me or if I can pick one up for you - I would be happy to. I have sent him a message, not sure how long it takes him to get back with someone.

I am really sorry about your puppies. Have you listed them on craigslist? I would think that the Facebook and here would be great exposure. Virgil and I talk about how much we love our Mater and Misty .......... They have been bored since our "critters" are down to just a few. Such gorgeous and so easy to train dogs! I wonder why the lady backed out - frustrating! How many pups do you have left to find homes for? If I remember right your girl had quite a large liter.........

So, you have my smooth guy :) I hope your group starts being nice to him :) he will throw some pretty babies! How is Lindsey doing? I visited with her via e-mail about hatching some eggs. She mentioned having tons of boys ........ I hope she can get her group split up so she can have some good fertility going on :)

Good to hear from you.

Hi all. I've been busy putting all my toys away in my craft room. It's all nice and tidy so I can start messing it up again! Ha! I moved some things around, too. The incubator is where I can get to it a bit easier. I'm testing my styros to see if they are going to hold temp. I replaced the wafer in the old one because it seemed a little funky, it may have just been missing plugs, I don't know. I got extra plugs and a new plastic and wire inserts for it. I think it will be good to go. We'll see. Then I moved my exercise equipment where I can have a good view of the TV while I exercise. You notice I didn't say, if I exercise. I have a fan, a tv, a mat, an eliptical and a weight set. There are no excuses left, are there?

We got a teeny, tiny little pullet egg from the Swedish pen today, so cute. Then we got another dark Cayuga egg. It's fun for the kids to find the eggs. It kind of looks like a rock, doesn't it?

Danz, your internet has been such a mess. I'm sorry it's been such a pain. We've been much happier with ours since we switched to Pixius. I don't know if that has anything to do with it -- I only know enough to get online.

It's so odd you're having a hard time selling your pups. Must be a combination of the crazy economy and drought.

Trish, I hope you've gotten you goat troubles solved by now. You and Danz are in the same boat with Murphy's Law all over you guys. I can't stand that Murphy guy -- he sure messes things up.

trudigale, hi! Welcome back.

Danz, I wonder if you shouldn't request a non-refundable deposit at the time you agree to hold a pup. Actually, a better idea is to just say you can't hold a pup without a deposit. It will weed out the flakes and non-serious people. Once someone has committed to a deposit they rarely back out, and if they do, at least you've got the deposit money to use to continue to feed the pup until you find a new buyer. I don't even think most people would blink at the suggestion.

I'm curious why they need saddles?

That egg is amazing - I had no idea eggs even came in that color!

I made good progress on the hoop coop today, I think. I got the A-Frame for stability for the back of it done, and framed in the door. The rest should be a piece of cake.

Trudi, I'll send you another email. I have some options you might be interested in.

Karen you are just too organized and dedicated. I wish I could get my act together. I've gotten a few of those dark eggs recently. They look like ashes to me.

I suggested that to a couple people but no one deposted anything down. I hurt myself by selling too cheap in the past and I am still lower than anyone else. But I had to raise prices to cover food and vet expenses. The guy that came today said he had been looking for Pyrenees for months and other pups he looked at weren't nearly as nice as mine. But people were asking $500 to $800 a dog. He took a pup and said he would be buying another one next time I had a litter. He and his wife were in puppy love for sure.
I put an add on craigslist under Farm and Garden and it was flagged and removed within an hour. Hard to understand when there is another add that hasn't been touched for a LGD that kills chickens. Made me wonder if they didn't flag it.
That has happened everytime I have posted an add for my dogs. It's disgusting. I follow all rules too.
Hechicken I don't know how you could stand to work out there today. I was frozen inside out just barely getting the feeding done.

hey guys milomac in Wichita, my cousin gave me an incubator today a (Favorite Incubator model110) It is kerosene fueled, is about 28inches by 30inches, and sits on legs like a coffee table. It has set in a shed for 20 years but doesn't appear to be in to bad shape. I am not intersted in this project. If somebody is interested I will give this unit away or trade for something nominal 316-650-1088

Wish I was closer.....I'd take it off your hands in a millisecond. I love the retro look of those things. I would use it as a coffee table. Kind of goes with the theme of all things chicken!

I got up early and am enjoying my coffee with only the sounds of a few peeps in here and the sound of those silly guineas from outside. Once again I have a lot planned for the day. I've got to get all the birds caught and caged that are going to Missouri tomorrow. I've got to get a table, tub, scalder, ice bin etc set up to do butchering tomorrow. Too bad it isn't forecast to be as warm as today is. Gonna break my heart to see those turkeys die but it won't be long before I have a few nice turkey dinners!! I'm hoping I can get them in some of the vacuum sealer bags. It would sure help them keep nicer. I can always try I guess. I've got to plan for a place to put my new Orps as well. I am so excited to get those monster birds. DH was planning on making a house and pen I could use but he just barely started cutting lumber. It's his project so I don't dare work on it!!
big_smile.png
He won't be off again till next weekend.
I also want to work on my hoop house when it gets warmer this afternoon. I would really like to get that finished. I don't have a tarp or anything for the top yet. I want to put something permanent on it but haven't decided for sure what I am going to do, so will probably just cover it in sheet plastic or a cheap tarp to start with.
I might have some company this afternoon as well. Looking forward to that. Medawinks' Sera had her surgery this week and if she is doing better today they might be down to play with the puppies.
Ivywoods should be coming this afternoon too. It's been a while since I've seen her. I wish they'd get moved so she had time to get on here and chat again. Thanks Checoukan for all your help with this.
