OK. Here is a pic of my (and DS's) favorite rooster. He came with the flock when DH bought the entire flock of 35 chickens back in August. Can someone ID the breed or is he just a barnyard mix? DS really loves this rooster and was heartbroken when his "twin" was killed.

If it is a specific breed, I really would like to get a pair or eggs to breed some chicks for DS.

I have certainly not seen every breed out there but he screams "EE Mix" to me. Unfortunately with EE's, you never know what you're going to get when you set eggs so getting another that looks just like him might be hard.

If you look at his feet, you will notice he has 5 toes. Not four like an average chicken.
Can you post pictures of your hens? You might have a pair because the hens and the roosters look entirely different.

Like I said, I haven't seen every breed so I'll defer to your opinion on that but.....what the heck? I can only see 2 toes on one foot! How on earth can you see 5 toes in that picture???? I guess my eyesight is just not what it used to be

Salmons are one of my favorite breeds. I love them. They are so easy going and just naturally a wonderful breed. A beautiful rooster but less than impressive hen, other than being cute with their little muffs and feathered feet.

Hmmm... a hen. I will have to google and see what a Salmon hen look like so I can identify if there is a hen in the flock.

LOL. You are not the only one. Even I don't know that he has 5 toes and he lives in my barn. Just funny...

He is absolutely an easy going rooster. I love the way he mosey over here and there. My other 2 big roosters (the watch dogs of our flock) seem to push him over at meal times often but he just mosey over to the other feeder nonchalantly.

No wonder my son loves his so much. He calls him "the yellow rooster".

Danz... I should have googled it first before posting a reply above. I definitely have 2 Salmon hens. Didn't realize they are the Salmon hens, we just love their very peaceful personalities. We all call them "the brown hen". LOL

Don't you like all the non-technical terms we use on our chickens? Definitely show how little we know about them. But I'll learn.

"The brown hens" are the roosters' favorites. Their backs are so bare, I just clinch every time I see them. But I've bought some chicken saddle/aprons a couple of days ago so hopefully will get them tomorrow or early next week. I HAVE to protect my favorite hens!!

I'll take a pic of the hens and post it tonight.

Salmon faverolle chicks bring a decent price. If you have a place to separate those three you could make a little money from them as well as have some more for your son. The girls tend to go broody now and then as well. The chicks are born yellow but the boys develop a dark streak along the base of their wing after a week or so...I never had a lot of luck sexing them that way though.
You just wouldn't think they would be the same breed would you? They don't tend to roam when they are allowed to free range as much as a lot of breeds do either. Congrats on having a trio!

Hello LizzyGSR I Live south of Dodge City 18 miles in Minneola.
Its been a while since ive been to Goodland but I'll be glad to make you coffee if you get this way..
I have lived in this area for two years and have never gotten anywhere close to Dodge City... :( I appreciate the offer, though.
Anyway, back to the disaster. Got home at 8:30 and we ate dinner, got the dog settled into her crate and at 9:30 I went out to hay the horses for the night. The gate was hanging wide open and the horses were GONE! In a frenzy DH and I started walking around with halters and buckets of grain calling them. We followed their hoof prints on the road north for about a mile and then DH went back for his car to start driving. We called the Sheriff to report them missing and called his parents who came out with spotlights. After about 35 minutes of me walking with grain, DH and his parents driving with spot lights and no sign of them the three non horse folks were ready to call it quits. So I told them they could stop looking but I was going to keep looking until I found them. I lost their trail heading east on the road and assume they left the road and went into a field. So I started driving around with my car and spot light. I tried to be very careful to only shine the light into fields and clicked it off when I drove near folks houses but I alerted one of the neighbors who happens to be a police officer and he chased me back to the house in his truck thinking I was a robber only to find a sobbing pregnant girl who had lost her horses! So he went back to his house gathered supplies and helped us start looking! He also recruited a sheriff friend who was on duty to help and DH made a sign to put out front of the house. Luckily enough another neighbor heard their dogs going nuts and went out to see our horses in their yard! Phew, we went up and gathered them up and I walked them two miles back to the house and we finally got to bed at 2 AM. We had snaps on the gate but now there are snaps and new chains around the posts with pad locks! If they get out of that I don't know what to do with them!!!
Oh my! I am so glad you got them home, safe and sound! I have one horse who is very mischevious. I have had him here for almost 6 months now, and he has yet to figure out how to open our gates. Hopefully, it stays that way! Our neighbor's horses have gotten out several times and he's also had some cattle get out. Somehow, everything of his that gets loose always seem to end up in our yard. Just the other day, we had one of his newborn calves in our yard. I'd like to know how they all know to come over here...

On a very happy note. The Shockers won the game and advanced forward to the Elite 8!

Hope everyone has a great day. Enjoy the warmth. Forecast said it will be in the low 70s.

I heard on the radio the Pizza Hut has said they will reopen the original Pizza Hut restuarant if the Shockers win the upcoming games. Looks like one more down ~ Maybe Wichita will have that original restuarant again??
