Consolidated Kansas

Well, no damage at my house. Brought my chickens in & put them in an animal carrier & took them to the basement. What precautions do other Kansans take for their chickens in tornado weather?

Lost power for a while. There was a power line down about 2 blocks east of us. We had hail galore, the trampoline was full of hails. The chickens were fine but the ss rooster was drenched! Guess he didn't go inside the coop during the storm.

We have to take a look on the roof tomorrow. A few neighbors have some busted windows and a friend of ours who lives just 3 miles east of us had a tree down.

Hopefully everyone is doing ok with the storm and don't have any property damage.

We only had some wind & rain, no hail here so that was good. We only had some small tree branches down for what I could see. I let the chickens get themselves into the coop when it started raining, they were out until the last minute. They wouldn't have gone in if I had tried until they were ready. I had two that got left out though when I ran out to shut the run door inbetween rains. My two Speckled Sussex hens still aren't used to being in the main coop again, so I have run them in. I guess they were down by the breeder coop & I didn't see them. They got pretty wet. Then after it quit I let them all back out again for awhile because they wanted out. I did manage to get most all of my feeding done before the storm hit & then fed the rabbits after it went on through. The 2nd storm went east of us, so we didn't get anything from that. There was a report of a tornado at Geuda Springs & Udall, but I didn't hear of any damage. There was a tornado down in Edmond, Oklahoma that did do damage, that's a suburb of Oklahoma City. My son lives in Del City, so it was a ways away from his place. He's probably out driving the truck though, so he probably wasn't there.

I hope you're all OK & didn't get any damage at your place. I heard that Wichita got it pretty bad & a lot of people are without power.

I agree with Danz, the Salmon Faverolle roosters get black on their feathers

Thanks Danz and Trish.. on the Fav's color.. that clears it up.. the girls just have much more feathering.. and appear darker but the others have the blackish.. feathers..

bbsnooks, Here are some pics of my first hoop coop, I don't have any of the 2nd one, but it's pretty much the same. I'm going to build one more soon too & divide it into two pens so it will have a door at each end. Mine don't have a coop like Danz built, she gets fancy. This one is where I house my guineas & peafowl. I just love the hoop coops too & I wish all my pens were those. You just don't have the issues you have with the dog runs & tarps on top.

I like..
How many pannels are on this.. It looks Longer than mine.. ( 2Pannels)
also how many birds would make it capacity to inhabit this?

I hope my peeps in the Wichita area are all ok from the storms last night! For all the worry the NWS had for us the storms amounted to nothing more than a normal thunder storm with a lot of rain. I don't mind the rain at all. In fact, bring it on we need it!

I did manage to get the 4x8 raise bed garden built, in place, filled and a few fence posts up before the heavens opened. Tonight I need to finish the gate to it and then actually get the plants in it.

Back to work for now.

Ok not sure if this is ok but I am throwing it out any way. I have a surplus of poultry syupplys and would be willing to part with some for reasonable prices:

3 - 3ft trough type feeders $10 each
2- 3 gal. waterers $10 each
2- Greattwall enclosures $20 each
2- Heat Lamps $5 each

There is more but I cant remember what it all is just now. Ill check when i get home and update. I am in the Valley center wichita area. If this isnt an appropriate post for this forum please do delete it.

If I was closer I would take some stuff off your hands.
We got ton's of rain, wind. But everyone is okay. We found two large rat snakes(I think) Saturday kids got a kick out of that.

My Dh was given an application for dream foundation ( facing a life-threatening illness by fulfilling a heart’s final wish.) if accepted he wants to take us to Disney. This made it hit home I'm trying yo keep it together for him and kids but it's not been easy . Some of my family is going to drive up to see us this summer which will be nice for my Dh. He has been doing good with treatments just doesn't have energy so it's doubled my work I need to figure out how to clone myself. All chicks are doing good just need to get them moved outside.
