Consolidated Kansas

I will go ahead and do that this time, and then put out soem calicum for the other girls who are laying. The HR I got from you started squatting down about 4 days ago for me! That will put me at 3 layers!

Out by Yoder there is a place called JaKo's INC. They raise and sale all natural, pastured raised products. They sale their own mix chicken feed for .45 a lb. We are looking into going there tomorrow to check it out and see what it's like!

I'd like to know about the feed also is it organic?. Our bread store outlet sells old bread to farmers you can buy racks of it. It's 6° this morning and breezy I'm ready for spring. Anyone have any ideas what I can do to help Dh out of bed. I'm only 5'2 he's 6'2 266lbs and I'm killing myself truing to help him

Michelleml, talk to your husband's doctor. The doctor can write a prescription for medical equipment that can help lift him. I assume that he is on medicare or some other government medical program. It will or insurance will pay for part if not all of the cost.
I guess I'll have to check if the law has been repealed.

My layer feed from the COOP is only 21 cents a pound & the scratch is 17 cents a pound. I had never figured it up by the pound before, but that's a lot cheaper than you were talking about. My COOP bags their own feed, so it's a lot cheaper there than other places. The only thing I buy anywhere else is the chick starter.

HEChicken, that sounds like something I would do, I pretty regularly drop an egg because of the nerve damage in my right hand. I think I'm holding onto something & I drop it.

michelleml, I agree with Danz, check with your Dr. & see if they can write you an order for some medical equipment to help you with lifting. Hospital beds are also easier to move people in & out of, so that may be an option also. If the Dr. orders medical equipment your insurance should cover at least part of the cost.

Boy it's cold out there today, this is one day I'm glad I'm not the one having to go out & do chicken chores, brrrr. It should get quite a bit warmer tomorrow though & stay that way for several days & then I see another cold front coming. We all need to pray really hard for an early spring.

Dh is not on medicare just tricare and sense I just was notified today they denied to pay for his new treatment (novottf). I'm get so discouraged with all of this . sorry for venting on here but thanks for listening guys

Since they raise all their products all natural I would guess that it all would be! They are have layer feed right now, and in the spring they will have layer feed. Since its only layer feed, I think we are going to wait a bit longer until ours are all laying! I can let you know more then! http://www.jakofarm.com/ is the website.

I sent them an email and asked a few questions I'll see what they have to say. Thanks

michelleml you need to start researching help for cancer patients. There are several organizations that will help advise you what you can get to help and others that will help fund some of your needs. If your husband is going to an oncologist which I assume he is, that doctor also knows of resources to help. You have to ask or you won't get help. There is also an organization for people under 65 who are ill or disabled that will assist.
I know it has to be very frustrating and you probably feel very alone and overworked. Also it might be good to contact your local hospital . Many hospitals have a person who deal with programs to help patients with various problems and programs.

Do you think if I posted a picture of them, someone might be able to help me guess how old they are? They are bantam cochins, is anyone familiar with them?

I know they are for sure they are 3 months+ based on when I saw a first photo of them, and at that point, they where not in a brooder and looked feathered out. They have become very pretty!
