Consolidated Kansas

Hello everyone.
My husband and I have been in the San Juan mountains in Colorado since last Saturday. We drove his parents up there, as they are not physically able to travel alone anymore. We had a good time, but are glad to be home. My MIL booked the cabin lodge where we stayed. You know someone is out of the technological loop when they book somewhere with NO WIFI. Our phones didn't work either, which we actually appreciated. But no WIFI for a week about killed me. We did catch some beautiful trout in the mountains, which was relaxing and fun. My husband and I love to fish. Crappie and walleye fishing here at home will always be our favorite.
Everyone here (family and fowl) was alive and well when we arrived home this evening. Tomorrow I will start collecting eggs that are to be shipped to a lady in Maryland.
My little Cream Legbar And Black Copper Marans chicks that hatched a week or so before we left are growing fast. I have noticed that they are much more flighty than my Cochins. Hopefully as I spend more time with them and they learn my voice they will not be as weary of me. Time will tell. When I turned their heat lamp on this evening I noticed that they are starting to chase bugs and moths already. So stinking cute.
My FIL's rain gauge had 2 inches of water in it when we dropped them off at their place in Eureka tonight. We sure needed this moisture. Severe storms can stay away. But moisture from nice calm rains are always welcome here.
I've enjoyed catching up on this thread since I got home. I missed keeping up with everyone while I was away.

It sounds like you had a good time. You don't realize how attached to your computer you are until you don't have it. I'm glad your birds were OK when you returned. We have had a couple of nice rains here & it's looking like more is on the way. We sure have needed the rain.

Welcome to our thread! Do you have chickens & if so what do you have? Feel free to join in the conversation any time, don't be shy. We talk about all kinds of things here, not necessarily always chickens.

Oh yes, we have chickens. We really needed to revamp the chicken pen and coop and some of our flock was getting older, so we rehomed those chickens late last summer to a wonderful gentleman. Around the first of March, we picked up 2 Buff Orphingtons, 8 Barred Rock, and * Rhode Island Reds. These weren't the breeds we were really wanting, but its what the feed store had.

Then I went cruising the McMurray site. I've never ordered chicks before so I didn't think of looking there when the feed store didn't have what I wanted. And I found all kinds of great breeds. So I placed an order for Red Star, Black Star, Buttercups, Buff Laced Polish, Golden Polish, and Partridge Rocks (and of course the mystery rare breed chick). They ship June 2nd.

I wanted some Welsummers, Mottled Houdans, Golden Campines, Speckled Sussex and Red Caps but they didn't have any available when I made my order.

Another Kansas BYCer here. I'm south of Great Bend a ways.

Welcome to our little family of bird lovers. I hope you enjoy your new babies when they arrive. We love pictures too.
Friendshipstar, I was gone one night and took my netbook. I so rarely use it I spent all my time just trying to do updates. I gave up and was going to finish them when I got home but somehow setting up to hook to their wi-fi messed up my settings and now I can't log on to my own wireless at home. I need to sit down and spend a few hours messing with it and getting it all set right again but I don't really have time right now. I'm a weird bird. I like my desk top so much better. For one thing I can see the screen without problems. I used to use the
netbook all the time but the last couple years I just haven't much. It's just easier for me to come in here and sit down.
I don't like using my cell phone for internet because it seems to use a lot more bytes than an ordinary computer and its a lot slower.

I also only use my cell phone only as a phone. I rarely use it to take photos. I use the desk-top because it allows me to set down and relax. As I worked for the USPS the last 20 years of my working days, I am use to being on my feet for long periods of time. I bought a pair of Salmon Faverolles and as I walked past all the other pens to my quarantine pen, they all went nuts. The Faverolles were not making a sound. I have never seen them so disturbed. I have eight different breeds of chickens. and a group that free-range, along with Two pair of African Geese , Numerous Muscovy ducks, Peafowl and guineas; this is the first time I've seen them that upset. Somehow they sensed they are different.

Sounds like it was a fun trip, with or without wifi. I know i've come to rely on technology a lot more nowadays. I even complained when I stayed with my mom that she has slow wifi. LOL. Glad your flock is doing well. I don't know what I'll do if my whole family is to leave town. Right now I'm already worried that I'll be gone the entire month of June, how my birds will do and if my husband will be able to care for them like I now.

Welcome back!
