Consolidated Kansas

I am one for recycling, and this is my latest project. I used a 1X4 long enough to mount 6 -64 ounce empty, plastic juice-bottles, on each side of the board. I cut a semi-oval out of the upper portion, and use the removed piece, as a shim, to reinforce the bottle, that is mounted with two screws, to the board. My idea is to put feed on one side, and water on the other. I have used bottles, cut with this opening, as feeders in portable cages, that I use at swap meets, with satisfactory results. This project is hard to tip over, even when empty. Each bottle will still hold about a quart, of water or feed. We go thru a lot of juice, so have plenty of empties on hand.

That's interesting Ralph, let us know how that works out.

Great idea Ralph. I don't attend swap meets but that might be something I could use if I happen to take birds to the HOAGBA auction this spring.
I've been so busy with projects and having guests for Thanksgiving I haven't been checking messages or anything. I'm either getting slower or I must have more things to do this year. Maybe both.

Long time no chat hope everyone had a good Thanksgiving (we had ours on Wed) since I worked Thurs-Mon holiday or not :) Hope everyone is bundled up somewhere safe dry and warm while this Blizzard moves through. I got to work at 9am this morning (I normally work 1400-2200) soo yea I knew someone would have to call in due to the weather and since my DH has to be here due to Weather :) Of course now the question is when we will go home and if so when that will be? For those who don't know my DH and I both work at KU Hospital. Thankfully I have redo/winterized my coop over the last few days and even added about 35 teenage chicks (RIR, BR, WR, BO, Del, Buck,) plus some new Bantams (OEGM, Cornish, unknown we did a grab bag of them from the hatchery) so yep gave everyone 3-4 bowls of water and food bowls per parts (my new teenagers and Bantams are in a separate cage in my coop). Hope everyone feathered babies are doing well.

I hope you made it home OK. We didn't get as bad of a storm here as everyone north of us did thank goodness but it still wasn't fun out feeding yesterday. Congrats on the new chicks, hope they're doing well.

Dani I hope you got home okay. The weather here was unreal. I finally ventured out at almost dark when the snow stopped but it was freezing hard then. I haven't checked the individual pens outside yet. I'm kind of dreading getting out at all. At least the geese have come out of their shelters and are walking around today. I need to figure out how to run a power cord out to the cows stock tank. That isn't going to be great.

Blizzard! Oh no! What area are you in? If it is somewhere close, I need to start hooking up the heat lamp! We have one of the coops hooked up but the other is not. They have a very insulated sleeping box, so we think they won't need it this winter. Hope you had a good drive home! On our way home from Tennessee, a deer ran straight into our truck but everyone is okay. If we weren't in something that sits so high from the ground, then it would've shattered a window covering us in glass.

We made it home ok but it was unreal it was a complete white out blizzard for 12 hours and we got 4-5 inches of snow which in the middle of Metro Kansas was a nightmare and then it got down to below freezing so there was Black Ice everywhere you looked cars were wrecking and people were falling :( So while we drove home ok when we went to park in our driveway (just the tip at the top since our driveway is a hill) the car slid down the driveway side ways thank the Gods by their grace we didn't hit our stone wall or trees but ended up parked half in our friends Vonnie's yard but she didn't care she was just so glad we didn't wreck. Thank you the chicks are doing great and I can't wait to get busy on my Toad project this Spring now that I have the Heavy Big Breeds I wanted to use in it.

Yeah that was quite the storm. Looks like we may have another one this Sunday. Not forecast to be so windy though. I saw last night that one person died in the snow storm. She had called work and said the roads were too bad so she was turning around and heading home. She didn't show up for work the next day so they called to have her checked out. They found her car in a snow embankment off the road and she wasn't in it. Then they found her body several hundred yards from the car. She apparently froze to death. So sad.
