Hey y’all. I’m not new to chickens, BYC, or to Kansas, but gosh, I haven’t posted here in years.

So not long ago I lost this guy to a age and an illness with a rapid onset—mostly age however. In the months preceding his death I had re-homed his offspring. I’m not sure of the specific breed other than he was an American gamefowl. (Any breed guesses would be welcomed.) He had to be kept separated from other roosters (especially his pure game offspring) once they reached maturity, but his gaminess along with that of the game hens, proved to be exceptionally well-adapted to life on the rural property where we all lived.

Lately I’ve really been missing them, and asking around trying to find some replacement gamesfowl hasn’t turned up any. I k ow they are around, but I just can’t seem to find any.

Thought I would ask here to see if anyone had any potential leads for American games. I’m located approximately halfway between Lawrence and Emporia. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

WOW! Beautiful! I don't personally know of any, I'm just south of Hays. I do know we have auctions coming up and I think your area may too? There were a few poultry-themed auctions too.

I’ve alway heard about these poultry auctions but have never been to one. Do people typical post about them in advance in this thread?

Your guess is as good as mine, this is my first year with birds. I was looking them up to try and locate some Golden 300 hybrids, but my friend ended up adding ducks to her flock from the supply store and here I am. My best luck was checking the boards that people put flyers on in gas stations or looking on NexTech. Even asking other livestock keepers in your area may be a good way to find out, some auctions will overlap with the types of animals sold.

Good ideer. I’ll start checking around a bit more. In recent years the prevalence of good old fashioned bulletin boards seem to have declined quite precipitously... And because I’m a curmudgeon, I blame Facebook

Spoiled birds! I'm housing mine with my friend's flock (so she is always being bothered with my visits) until I build my duck coop. I don't have many pictures of her chickens though. I'll have to get some. She has a Red something breed that LOVES following me around and begging for treats. Which always works.

Maybe Rhode Island Reds? I’ve lived with a few RIRs who were *quite* food motivated.

@georgem There aren't many gamebird breeders around. I'll let you know if I hear of one. I know you don't like FB, but there are still groups on there, we just have to be careful not to mention money at all on the posts.

Thanks @Trish44! I actually used a social media outsourcing service (friend who owes me a favor) to post an ad on Facebook. I think he’s pretty familiar with the rules on all the various small animal swapping groups.

Yep, @Snarflogus, whoever they are, they look like the types who would be interested in treats!
