Consolidated Kansas

Hi. I work in Overland Park and lived in Stanley for 10 years. I'm no help with the laws, though. Stanley is or at least was close to rural areas, so I just got my hens and didn't bother with the codes

No one ever complained, but then no one probably ever even knew they were there.

the law was no barnyard animals in Olathe-thats why I moved even though I was on 2 acres, several people I know had to get rid of their chickens and ducks. Not totally sure about that special use permit though they may have changed some laws in the last 10 years-I know my sister cant even have her garage door open for more than 15 min, no camper shells on trucks and all kinds of other crazy laws

So how many of you Kansas BYCers are going to Hutch for the State Fair? Wow I havent been for so many years, I always end up going to the MO fair since its so much closer and I have family in that area. If so are you showing, selling, or just visiting? I really would love to buy some more Call Ducks, need more girls very bad-my boys are getting to that age and I have to keep my poor girl away from them since she is way too young and the only one-thought I kept more girls until they started with their raspy quack-figures lol oh well. I also want other bantams such as Silkies and D'Uccles and who knows what else-looks like we should have some good cooler weather then so it should be an enjoyable trip

I live about 30 minutes from Hutch and do most of my shopping there, but try to avoid going during the fair.....too many people. I haven't been to the fair in a long time. Last time I went, I went just to walk thru the poultry building......was not worth the time let alone the money. I was very disappointed in what was on display.

I guess the laws have changed. I read the zoning ordinance and there is a hole in there that allows the keeping of chickens among other things if you have a special use permit. The process to get one looks fairly staggering. Anyone else out there in or near Olathe?

Was it Stanley that got absorbed into OP? Or was it Stillwell? Or both? I can't remember. I am actually in a good spot. I am on the absolute fringe of the "city". There are farms around me and utility land on another boarder. With the housing crunch/weak economy I don't see much building going on for many years. So far I am lucky because my neighbor is a veterinarian and she is very cool with the chickens. So much so, that she said she would help out with them for eggs. It is a good trade-off I think. If my birds ever become a problem I can just move them over the barb-wire fence to the pasture next to me. And yes, I know the owner. That is who I used to get my eggs from

We'll be at the State Fair. The kids have 6 birds entered in the opens. I may also be bringing some for someone else if I've got the room. If I've got anything to sell, I'll list before we go and would bring just those, but we're not bringing any to see about selling them there. I thought the 4-H/FFA/etc. area was a bit disappointing last year but the opens were good. At least I thought they were.

Olathe is so silly with their ever changing laws-so glad you can have a few with a permit, my nieces really want some and now maybe they can have a few-they did 4H in Arizona but sold all their birds before they had to move back to Olathe, so I know they would just love to get back into it.
All of Stanley is now Overland Park-part of Stillwell is now Overland Park but the people between 167th and 199th have been fighting getting Annexed for years now. I went to school at old original Blue Valley High school so I really hate seeing everything gone and changed. The old red brick building at 151st and Metcalf was lifted and moved close to 69HWy so they could make 151st a 4 lane now all the way to Mission-you wouldnt even recognize the area now a days with the big fancy shopping centers, giant houses and golf coarses-I miss the old farms.
Just to let everyone know Sept 13th at the state fair is Dillions dollar day-its one dollar to get in or free with your Dillions shopper card, plus they are having other specials that day, if I lived close that would be worth it just to run in and see the animals-we havent had a real WYCO fair since Schlitterbaun bought the fairground property for the water park, we had a tiny version of it this year at Leavenworth co fairgrounds in Tongie just so everyone could qualify for state so I really missed it, hope they get the new grounds by next year

We considered taking my sons mini rex but its a bit of a drive and my husband didnt think he could get the time off work and still get time off around the holidays to drive back home to michigan. Maybe next year

AC is out front of my neighbor's this morning looking for a stray dog in the area. My DH came to take the kids to school and he said the guy stopped him and asked if we had a permit for the chickens. DH said "Yes we do. Do you want to see it?"

The AC officer said "No" and DH ran in to tell me about it.

No sooner had DH and the kids left and one of the juvie roos decided to find his voice.

He's still parked out there, so I've got my permit out just in case he changes his mind.

TY! TY! TY! Tammy!

Anyone in Indy who doesn't have one, get yourself to the water dept today and get your $2 "chicken yard" permit. By the time they tack on all the fees and fines, the price is outrageous.
