Consolidated Kansas

I also wouldn't mind having something on your site Candace if we could get the word out that it was there somehow. I agree with Danz that there is nothing on that Breeder's list for KS. I also think we should have a basic list of what everyone has & then they could add or subtract what is available right now. I think it's helpful to just have the list of what all breeds everyone has & I know the availability would change all the time. Who would be responsible for keeping the list up to date? How would that work, would someone have to contact you to make updates?

If I did the simple page on my site, and only if everyone wanted to do it.....and it was ok.....and it was not stepping on toes. ....you'd just PM or email the changes to me.
Then I'd just have the page in the simple form above like I showed. You'd PM the info in the format I showed and I'd fill it in on the page and update it monthly for everyone. Then ya'll could share it as you liked.

If you make the page on your website then you can put that website link on your profile here and it will show under your name as website. Then if one of us was looking for chicks or eggs we could just click on the website link to see what is available at the time. I think some are making it harder than it has to be. I don't think this is meant for all of BYC just for us here on this particular thread. I think it is a fab idea. I will be looking for some chicks this spring but don't know where exactly everyone is or what they have. I don't want to filter through 500 pages just to see what is available at the time.

I looked at the link, and I noticed there was pretty much nothing on there for Kansas, so here's my 2 cents worth, if it's even worth that much.

I think all of us who are sellling chickens should first get our information posted on BYC. Frankly, I haven't done it because I was unaware of that thread. Guess I not had the need to look for it, but I can see where other people could really benefit from it.

Second, I would be very happy to have my information posted in a link on Candace's website. I've looked at her pages and she has done a lot of work and it is kept up to date. (AND I LOVE THE DOGS, TOO!)

Her webpage might not be accessed by as many chicken people as BYC, but there would certainly be some, and it would be more of a concentrated audience geographically.

That sounds OK to me, what does everyone else think? We could always put a link to the page on our thread every so often & if anyone inquired about one breed or the other we could refer them to that. It would need to be kept up to date as much as possible though I think. Danz, I know what you have changes a lot, so yours might be a little harder to keep up with. Until I get my breeder coop built I won't be contributing to the available list. I would still like to have the list of what everyone has though even if they don't have anything available at present all in one place instead of having to look through posts to find that.

tntblake, that's a great idea, I hadn't thought of that about the website link. I think this will be a great resource for those of us in KS & could even for surrounding states if they were looking for something specific.

I agree with every one of you. I absolutely need to post on the BYC list but we do need a reference to go to to see what people have now. I didn't know about the BYC list and thanks Nana for telling us about it. If I ever get my breeder house set up I will have a lot more chicks to move and what better place to get references.
My only concern, Candace is that is going to take a lot of work on your part to keep that updated, especially this spring. Are you up for that? Honestly it would not be good to put too much on you. It would also be nice if you could input some additional key words in for search for Kansas birds. One more question. I have other birds, pheasants, ducks, etc. Would I be able to list those as well?

Like I said we can take it as it comes and see how it works out but no, I don't mind or I wouldn't offer!

I could update monthly, or in the spring, try to do it about every 2 weeks..or week??? It wouldn't be something I could do daily. You'd need to have some forethought (if that's the word) so your ad would cover what you had to what you expected. I'd jsut be doing as I was able

Best way to keep in touch with me so I could DO the update is email me at the web, [email protected] as I don't check in here every day, so PM's wouldn't be the best way probably.

Once I have the page done, the updates would be pretty easy as long as you sent them in the form I stated before, or however we decide to do it. But if that form was how I got it, I can just cut and past it to the page, walla, done, the initial building would be the time consuming thing.....and yes; I'd put in some meta tags, but it would be more for here than anything.

And I don't see that adding what fowl you have, as opposed to just chickens, would be a big deal. In the breeds we can have the form like this (you decide what you'd like to see, but it would need to be simple and in a format that I could cut and paste the info over:

So, simple, like:

Name:Jane Whoever
Contact: [email protected]
Avaialbe:
Chickens: Salmon Favoroles, Lakenvelders Cucumarans
Ducks: Cayuga
Other Fowl:peahens
Ages: babies to adults; only babies; etc?
Prices: we could even have prices subject to availability, contact.
Where: Waverly area
See my BYC page for additional breeds: (put the link of the page; do you pay for this?)

Candace, no it doesn't cost to have a BYC page. Golden Feather Memberships for the basic one is only $20 a year, but you don't have to even do that to just be a member & have a BYC page or blog as they call it. I don't know what everybody else thinks, but I think the prices should be kept off there because they probably change at times with time of year & availability. If someone wants to know prices they can contact that member for that info. So what info do we definitely want on the form? I guess that would need to be decided first if we're going to have Candace do this?
