Are you certain that it's food grade? The reason I ask is first the price (great price!!) and second that it's in a feed sack? Are you talking feed sack as in cloth (I don't know, maybe someone still uses them...) or a fiber reinforces plastic bag? Mine is Perma Guard brand and it's in a heavy brown doubled paper bag. I'll have to get it into a tight container soon before mice find it. Guess I'm thinking of the old style cloth feed sack, and I think the stuff I got would come thru that. It's fine like cake flour.

If you're going to be using it yourself, as I am, take my advice and DON'T just mix it in with water and chug it down! I did that yesterday because I forgot to add it to my morning shake. Figured "how bad can it be alone!" BLECK!!!!!!!!! It could have been worse, but sure set me back to when I was a kid playing with mud pies and got some in my mouth. This stuff isn't just top soil dirt, far from it literally, but it'll taste like it if you do as I did. lol

Heated buckets?? As in 5 gallon buckets, with lids?? lol Do tell because I'm wondering what I'll do about my girls water this winter. I am using a heavy plastic 7 gal watering fount now. Wanted to go with the nipples on a hanging bucket but hubby thinks a bucket of water will freeze out there. We have installed a light socket for a bulb above the waterer as it is now. He thinks that between that and the heat the chickens will radiate it might not be a problem. I'll be asking my friend down the road with a coop like mine. Are there any insulated wraps for water founts out there? I have no clue..............

Oh the weather yesterday (Sunday) was glorious!! I was so excited to be putting on my jeans and sweater for church. I dressed the same today and it felt great until it warmed to 70, but I lived with sleeves pushed up. All the clothes take some getting used to for me after summer but once I have to do it it feels soo good. I haven't made any hot tea yet but expect I will tomorrow when I'm home all day. This reminds me that I need to order my favorite Stash tea, Vanilla Nut Creme.....yum!!!

I do hope we have a nice long mild Fall instead of charging right into early winter cold. I just want to get my pool cleaned and closed, then I'll take it as it comes. I hope I can make it to the maple Leaf Festival in Baldwin this year, October 16-17. I have yet to find anyone selling hot spiced cider there, and it's what I long for every year when I'm there. I'm really not hard to please, just want my cider! lol

When we had all our old old windows replaced last year with double hung insulated we found out we could get up to $1300 tax rebate. What we got didn't get us the full $1300 but it was darn close. Every bit helps. And not I have NO leaky drafty windows AND I have a 7 ft slider where I had a tall narrow window and a solid back door. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the light and fresh air!!!! Thank you Lord!!!!

I use a 5 gallon bucket, 1/2 pvc tubing and nipples to water my birds. I know I will need to stop using this system once it starts freezing. I don't think your 5 gallon bucket and a light will keep you water from freezing here in Kansas. What I would like to try and feel it would work, 5 gallon bucket with nipples on the bottom and use a water heater like a fish tank or a livestock water heater. The fish tank heater could break if water gets to low and more water is added. I bought my nipples at QC Supply http://www.qcsupply.com/catalogsearch/result/?q=nipple

First thanks for the info on a Tax rebate for the wood stove. I am still going to price and see if I can do it even at 30%. I am thinking it would pay for its self in one good winter of heating bills.
As to water heaters, here is some of what I do and know. They make a under the fount water can, for those metal type that are 5 or 7 Gal. I think they run about $40. Last year I pluged in two light bulbs with reflectors on my 5 gal water can, and they did fine. I have had to raise my 5 gal one up to keep the ducks out of it as they just nasty it up.
I am thinking a bird bath heater for them and their big tub.

Rees Fruit Farm sells hot spiced cider.

Thanks for that link. Sounds like a nice place!! I was referring to having hot cider at the Maple Leaf Festival in Baldwin. If there's anyone there selling it I haven't found them yet. I like to go to the Louisburg Cider Mill but might have to go check out the Rees Fruit Farm sometime too.
