Consolidated Kansas

Well now I have problems there an auction in clay center the same day as the pick up on the k-start pullets. I was just talking to my wife about making if a family day and picking up the pullets and remembered. O well there will be plenty of auctions this summer. BTW welcome to all the new people! I went to the vet this morning and he sold me a little ivomec sheep drench and only charged me a buck! So i went to dollar tree and picked up some vasaline and fixed the birds all up. They sure thought I was and @$$ when I got done but they should be on their way to getting healthy, gave them their weekly dusting while I was at it.

That's great that your vet sold it for so cheap!! Sounds like you are all set up!! I'm soooo glad you got the vaseline! That will work much better, I think. :) YAY!!

Yes, round end up and pointed end down. Some of my marans eggs are so ROUND on both ends it is really hard to tell which end is up.

Dh says I have a hard time telling which end is up most of the time anyway. Thanks for your opinion, DH. Remember the paybacks, Dear.

I have candled some of my marans eggs and discovered at lockdown that they were upside down in the carton. Some hatched and some did not. Perhaps it didn't matter too much because when I put the egg cartons in the tray I actually place them completely on their side and turn them from side to side. I think they lay in there more like they would in a hen's nest. Most of those eggs lay on their side.

I started work on my brooder. I hope to finish tonight, but I had to come in and get some stuff scheduled for my DH's appointment. We are finally going to be seen in Topeka and hopefully he will get a heart cath done ASAP. Wish us luck, folks. I've taken tomorrow of work so we can stay however long he needs to. I've got someone I can call to do chores for me if I need to.

IVY, good luck on the appt. in Topeka, I hope you both get some answers soon so you know what you're dealing with. It's so hard to not know & the uncertainty is what is so un-nerving.

rittert, it sounds like you've got those birds all fixed up now.

Well I've got to go out & put together another cage that came today for my rabbits, so I had better go get to it. I was disgusted because the legs came for the other cage I have, but they forgot to include the tray slides in the box, so now I've got to try to get those before I can use my tray I got. Other than that everything else was in the order, so I've got to go put feeders on & all of that. After I get all of these cages fixed up I'm going to try to start working on the cage I want to make from the shelving unit. I have to figure that out as I go. See you all later.

The puppies are really cute. Hubby would kill me if I got one but they are really cute. We just finished keeping Mollie in so she didn't get pg- really must get her fixed.

I am getting pea eggs anyone else? Set 4 under a broody barred rock and some silkie eggies and chicken eggies under the 2 silkies that went broody..Is it the warmer weather making them go that way? 3 in the last week!!

It was just beautiful today and I was off outside enjoying it. :)

I will be in Topeka on Thursday the 4th with my daughter and hope someone can give me advise as to what is a must to do -from about 8 to around 2:30. My Grandson is going to be a page. So we are there to take him and bring him home..?? And no I really have not been before - well maybe on a school trip so long ago it doesn't count.

Just hatchin, seriously there's lots in Topeka. Best place to head for food, shopping etc is Wanamaker. If you have a GPS put in 2040 SW Wanamaker. That will take you to the intersection of 21st and Wanamaker. There will be a target just Southeast of there but if you head north on Wanamaker there are tons of businesses, the mall, and restaurants to choose from. That should keep you busy. They refer to the area as the Wanamaker corridor.
There is also a Topeka zoo if you are thinking more of entertainment than eating or shopping. Here is the link for more info. http://topekazoo.org/
Ivy I hope all turns out well for your DH. I just hope they find something they can fix. If he has to stay for a procedure can you call checokan and have her post it here? That way we can know what is up and be praying for the best. I know this is a very stressful time but I hope it is a step in the direction for a cure.

Too funny about both ends being rounded and your DH taking advantage of that fact to remind you of your draw backs.. hehe!! I myself am continually fighting to think of words I want to use! They are RIGHT THERE-- and I can't think of them. I think it's because I'm home all day with the kids and I don't have to use bigger words than "potty" and the alphabet song. Well, I'll be praying for your DH tonight that tomorrow brings clear and concise tests which will show the problem clearly. Also praying that it can be fixed or controlled. At the very least, I hope you enjoy your break in routine!

Pea eggs!? I'm not getting any, but the boys have been working their tails like mad. Really hope the girls get moving! I have a Purple Black-Shouldered pair and a Pied White-Eye India Blue cock and an IB hen.

I was a page when I was a kid-- maybe middle school or high school? I don't remember! I DO remember that it was a TON of fun! Topeka is so close to Lawrence, and I have a couple of favorite restaurants there that I can't miss when I get close. There is an awesome brewery on Mass and then a fabulous Italian place out south. My brother lives there, so I am a bit biased, too.

Exiting that you are getting pea eggs! Do you sell the chicks? What do you do with them? I think that is one bird I would get hunted down for if I got it! LOL My neighbors aren't really too close-- but we are all on 10 acre tracts here, so I do have neighbors, and they are close enough to hear something like that. They'd probably be calling the police the first time they heard it scream HELP! hehe! I already have my neighbors jumpy, too. A little over a year ago, we made the local news in Wichita, because my mare got stuck in our back pond when it dried up a bit and created a bog. I called the fire dept to help me get her out. I needed lots of hands, and I was alone. What I didn't know is that my call was confused or something and two fire trucks, an ambulance, Animal Control, and 6 sheriff cars/trucks arrived here!!! Nearly all at once. Our neighbors (and mind you, they KNOW us!) thought maybe there was something domestic going on. Then when the news channel trucks came...they thought the worst--- it was just chaos!! It took 2 hours to lift, drag and dig my horse out. That was with like 6 men working non stop. Fortunately, I'd called the vet right when I found her and told him to get here asap when we got her out. So he was ready with IV's and drugs, etc and we turned her stall into a mini hospital. Anyway, I still get harassed about causing an uproar in the neighborhood. I'd probably get kicked out if i got pea fowl. LOL! BUT--- I think they are beautiful! And if I ever live far enough away from neighbors-- I'm going to get some!

Good luck with your hatching, too!

Well had a great day outside today. Got alot done with the birds then took the kids to the park and library then out to the farm to help with chores (they love doing that). Danz my wife and I were joking around about seeing if you'd trade a GP pup for our 6 yo beagle, but we wouldn't have enough room or the time for a pup. He is getting to be such a pain because I have been busy and in and out alot and havn't kept up on his training lately. I was so amazed at how easy he was to train and teach different commands but he's so clingy and hard headed that he dosn't listen near as much these days.

Danz... "my" pigeon is roosting on my back deck tonight. Poor thing. I'm starting to feel really bad about it. Why is it coming back night after night? It sits right in front of my bedroom window and stares right in at me. I could open the window and touch it -- it's about a foot away! But I just look at it and it looks back at me. I open the window a crack and talk to it and it just cocks it's head a bit and keeps staring at me. Sigh.

Rittert, sounds like a good day over all! :)

Renee, oh wow, you have some neat pea fowl too!! Are the eggs really tiny?
