Consolidated Kansas

I keep track of what comes in, and what it costs, and what goes out and its price, minus a few cash transactions for eating eggs I forget about.
I just keep little doller store notebooks for each species (ex. khaki, peking, turkey). If the amount changes me on taxes (which its unfortunately never been high enough to do) Id report it.

At the least, its a good record of where all my funny money goes. The view in the backyard!
That's actually a really good idea! I think i'm going to do something like that. Since I'm starting out, now is the perfect time!

Totally a good thing. You will know who pays for themselves this way too. Do they lay enough? Are you getting enough meat (if you do that). What sales well.

Funny, most of my sales are to the oriental food market. They love fresh duck eggs and sometimes order live quail, but I never see either in the store. I think he talks to his customers, and drops them off or something. (but I have it on good authority that he also has an incubator...but no ducks, if you follow what becomes of my lovely duck eggs) I don't know, but it pays for their food!

Hi all, I've been kind of busy today, so I haven't been on here much. I decided it was cleaning day this morning for the rabbit hutches & boy was that a messy job, it was just too nice of a day to waste not doing something outside. I had to change out one of the cages I had put in the bottom of that frame I have the other large cages sitting on. I discovered that who ever put the cage together that I put in there didn't know what they were doing because they put the wire that was supposed to be the floor on the top & visa-versa. So the poor rabbit, one of my new chinchillas was sitting on bigger wire than I wanted her to have to sit on. I will have to figure out how to change that cage if I'm going to use it. By the time I got all of the trays cleaned out & new pine shavings put in & all it was time to cook lunch for DH & then as soon as I got done with that I had to clean up & go to Ark City. I went to look at some rabbit hutches my friend has to see what needed to be done to fix them up. I did end up buying them, but didn't bring them home today. I also brought home a new girlfriend for the young chinchilla buck I had. Her mate got eaten by a dog, so I couldn't leave her there to possibly end up that way too.

By the way, I just started a Kansas Farm Animal Swap site for all of the other animals people are wanting to sell, buy, or swap. Here is the link for it, come join us: https://www.facebook.com/groups/312601348787264/. This will be a compliment to the Kansas Poultry Swap site for people who have other animals also. It seemed like it was something people were looking for. As with the other group, there will be no posting of pets or pet items, just farm animals or related items. So eventually there will only be poultry & poultry related items on the Poultry Swap. We're going to give people a few days to find the new site & join up & then the other animal posts will probably be deleted, so if anyone has goats or other animals on there you need to move them to the new site.

IVY, it sounds like you're just hatching away up there, congrats! Save some wheatens for me!

Verna, you might move your puppy ad to the new Farm Swap site too.

Thanks tweety, hopefully we can get more poultry on the poultry site soon with all the hatching in the spring. I know some people are already hatching, but more will be joining in soon. I know there is an Easter hatch coming up & lots of people will be hatching for that holiday.

I've never sold my eggs online, even though I have good laying lines, and I change males often for freshness. I guess I should, but does the word really need more hatching eggs for khakis, pekings (regular and jumbo), or quail?

Theyll never get my turkeys....he he he.
