Rosie-It sounds like Fred is agreeing to go a little bigger than what he was going to do. I STILL think you need to talk him into some skylights for the thing. We didn't put any in the shop, and have regretted it ever since. We did put them in the new barn and it makes all the in difference in the world. If it's roof leaks he is worried about, it is not a problem. It's really no more apt to leak than any otther part of the roof. You could make the argument that with skylights you need a lot less in light fixtures, wiring and don't need lights at all during the day. Without them, you will need to run the lights, even during the day any time you are in there. It's more expensive to put in windows than it is to put in skylights. I know how he hates electric bills. I'm so glad you are happy about the plans.
Danz-My thoughts and parayers will be with you and your parents. Did you check with the Rusty Barn company? Mike did a lot of checking around and they were BY FAR the cheapest. If they are going to be in your area they will get to you right away. If they aren't in the area it might take a while longer, and NO ONE is any faster than them. They can build it "no frills" or you can order a lot of bells and whistles. We did the "no frills" version, then add the things we want ourselves. Oh, and I've been meaning to tell you I have had zero fertility on my seramas. I am planning to turn them loose and see what happens. In Malaysia many of these chickens are free, wild birds. That is their ancestry. Mike was there on a job for a while and he remembers seeing them wild. They are the only birds I have that look at the door when I open it, make a calculation in their head and then fly like a sparrow out the door! I think they would be a lot happier in a large pen or free range. Maybe they will raise a few chicks of their own if they are free and happy.
Hawkeye-It was a beautiful day. Did you get your wood dried out for your coop?
Rittert-so sorry about the landlord problems. It doesn't sound like a very workable situation. You've had nothing but problems over there from the git-go.
I've had a GREAT day today. My oldest son who will be starting med school this summer has decided to go to KU med school. He has already been accepted. I'm so glad he will be close enough that we will be able to visit him when he has a breather in his schedule. He will be graduating in May from KSU with a degree in mechanical engineering with the nuclear option as well as all his pre-med requirements. At this time it's his intention to be a radiation oncologist.
AND my step son, who I feel is the same as one of my own has been accepted into 3 colleges, but he was notified that he has received a $48,000 academic scholarship to the college he preferred out of the 3. He will be majoring in athletic training, trying out for football, doing ROTC as well as officer training. He joined the national guard right out of high school, and took a year off from college to do boot camp and other training. He is going to be one busy boy.
