Consolidated Kansas

Just got a message that one of my pup buyers has to back out due to a sickness in the family. She is also wanting to sell her 9 month old male that she bought from me a while back. I guess it must be legit since she called me long before the pups were born asking when I would have some available.

Sorry about the rug and the pup Danz. Hope your day gets better. That is a little dismaying to hear that your Silkies and Cochin aren't interested in sitting - everything I've read about both breeds is that all they want to do is sit.

I just heard from Renee/ChooksChick regarding her visit next Tuesday. She hasn't been well but wanted me to let you all know she is still planning on coming to Wichita on Tuesday and if you have PM'd her wanting chicks/eggs, she is still wading through all of her emails/PM's. Unfortunately, she may not have as much available as she first thought because she's had a few go broody which means they're not laying like they were.

Ok, I have a roo not feeling well, congested, what can I give him? I've never had to doctor a chicken before, I have penn, la200, baytril, do I give him a shot? What? Thanks! Hes congested, I think he caught a cold.

Candace, The baytril is what a lot use on here for respiratory stuff, I have never used it, maybe Hawkeye or Danz could answer that better. I have usually used Tylan because that's what I have here. Also, if you have some VetRX use some of that also. You can either put it in their water or rub it on their nostrils to help the congestion. They usually have it at Atwoods or TSC in Wichita had it the other day when I was there. You will want to isolate the bird from the rest or they will all have it, it's contagious.

Danz, sorry to hear about your pup buyer backing out this late in the game. I'm sure you can find someone who will want the pup though. I hope they replace your torn rug, that's too bad. I hope your day gets better also.

Hawkeye, I'm surprised that wind picked up your hutch too, it must have really caught it just right. I'm glad it didn't do any damage though. No, my pups are still eating eggs darn it! I got a shock collar & last night I was trying to take the collar thing apart to put the batteries in & one of the screw is so darned tight I stripped it out trying. My DH was really mad at me for doing that, he asked me why I didn't wait for him to help. Well I honestly don't think he could have gotten it out either. So now I have to write the company & see if they will replace the darned collar before I can use it, what a hassle. On top of that all of my computer fans seem to have gone out at the same time, so I'm back on my DH's computer & I hate not being able to access my own stuff. So now I have a back fan coming & it should be here today but I had to order a front case fan now, geez computers are nice as long as everything keeps working.

Puppy is sold. This time I'm leaving up the add in case someone else back out! Geez!
I took some pictures of the damage to the rug and I'll have to see what they will do. It was expensive so I hate to settle for damaged goods. Now I'm afraid to take it out of the package and look at it in case they want to do a pickup on it. I should be getting them called. I've been on the phone all morning for this or that so I haven't even gotten dressed yet! I am getting so far behind.

wow Karen that is a lot of sand. It sounds like a great place to brood chicks. Being underground will help with the heat as well. I'm going to step out on a limb here and say with that much sand it is going to be a while before it all gets dry. But water will filter to the bottom of it. The wind is blowing crazy today. Maybe you could let it dry one more day. Or put a little electric heater with a blower down there and shut it up to cook some moisture out. Knowing me I'd probably have towels or something trying to soak up excess moisture.

I tend to lack patience.
I so understand being done with having the chicks inside. I keep saying I'm getting all the birds out of this house but then I hatch some more and I'm stuck again. And then there's the duck!
My DH is getting a kick out of him. I ran out to feed the puppies while ago and he and the duck were waiting at the back door for me. He said, "He heard your voice so I am was helping him find you. When he runs across the floor his little feet make a flap flap flap sound and it cracks DH up every time. Yeah so ducky had breakfast and is sitting peacefully on my lap. He took a nap with DH last night after he got home from work. I swear I really need to get my camera out and video tape him. He's hilarious.
It's really cold this morning. Feels like winter again.
My rug came yesterday and DH helped the UPS guy unload it. When we brought it in the house last night I noticed a big rip on the underside. #$%^$& I'm not sure if it will fray there or not. So I guess I'd better make some calls today and see what can be done about it.

I know you're right, it may take more than another day to really be ready for chicks. I've raked the sand this a.m. in lieu of more shoveling and I've determined I'm just going to have to be patient. Not my best virtue. Shoveling and raking in one's 50's is enough to throw every fiber in one's being into revolt. Ah well. The moisture continues to filter down and at least the concrete at the bottom of all that sand is no longer wet, just damp. Today I am grateful for the wind and even the wretched cold since its lower humidity should improve the drying process of the sand. Although, I had a large fan going down there but it's thermostatically controlled (don't ask me why, it was my FIL's) and won't come on today because it's too cold. Sigh. Thanks for your voice of reason.

Sorry you're having one of "those" days. Not fun. But ducky sounds adorable! Nothing like an animal to make us smile through our frustrations.

I commented the sound of the duck's feet flapping on the floor sounds like a helicopter. So DH has now officially named him Chopper. I told him he needs to get the duck attached to him so it will follow him through the yard.
I called and they are sending me a new rug and sending UPS back to pick up this one. Yay! No hassles.

Did you ever read the children's book "Are you my Muvver?" to your kids when they were little? LOL - Chopper sounds just like the duckling in that book. He has a name now - you're ON the hook.
