Naw! DH is on the hook. He is the one that wanted a duck to follow him around. Of course who will be left to clean up the mess and try to mask the smell??

Ok, I have a roo not feeling well, congested, what can I give him? I've never had to doctor a chicken before, I have penn, la200, baytril, do I give him a shot? What? Thanks! Hes congested, I think he caught a cold.
You need VetRX in his water. Are you in Wichita-- I've forgotten where you are at. Our Atwoods has it in Derby on the shelf. I bought an extra bottle to keep on hand-- if you buy it, think about getting a couple to be prepared. If he is serious, use Tylan or Baytril. Both can be injected into the breast. Tylan can be injected into the sinus if you know what you're doing.

Hawkeye, I'm surprised that wind picked up your hutch too, it must have really caught it just right. I'm glad it didn't do any damage though. No, my pups are still eating eggs darn it! I got a shock collar & last night I was trying to take the collar thing apart to put the batteries in & one of the screw is so darned tight I stripped it out trying. My DH was really mad at me for doing that, he asked me why I didn't wait for him to help. Well I honestly don't think he could have gotten it out either. So now I have to write the company & see if they will replace the darned collar before I can use it, what a hassle. On top of that all of my computer fans seem to have gone out at the same time, so I'm back on my DH's computer & I hate not being able to access my own stuff. So now I have a back fan coming & it should be here today but I had to order a front case fan now, geez computers are nice as long as everything keeps working.

Me TOO!! I can't believe how strong the wind is here. We just have no break, what so ever. No trees-- all open, so I think we get the brunt of it. Sorry about your computer acting up.

I commented the sound of the duck's feet flapping on the floor sounds like a helicopter. So DH has now officially named him Chopper. I told him he needs to get the duck attached to him so it will follow him through the yard.
I called and they are sending me a new rug and sending UPS back to pick up this one. Yay! No hassles.

Love the name Chopper! Sorry about your rug, but glad that they are going to replace it- Whew!! Lucky!

OH-- and when I was inspecting Zorro's rear to be sure it's still clean-- I found MITES!! Yikes!! I immediately dusted him and then got all upset when it seemed like there were a lot of them, so I got out my dog's Hartz flea drops (phenothrin) and put a drop on their neck and a drop on their tail. THEN I got to thinking (after I'd used it) is that okay to put on birds?!?! So then I freaked out and Googled it and can't find anything about phenothrin and birds or chickens. So hopefully I didn't do any harm. Worst case-- if it is bad for them, they didn't get a lot of it. (the dosage was for puppies under 15 lbs-- since my dogs are in the 5 lb range).

Okay, so my DUMB silkie can't decide if she wants to sit in the nest or outside of it. Of course, she lays the egg IN the nest and was broody sitting in the nest. Then she gets up and sits outside of the nest right in front of it!! Esh. I took another egg away from her this morning again, even though she was sitting on it-- she had layed it outside the nest. What is going on with her?

I do have a picture of her in the nest. It's cute, so I wish if she were going to go broody, she'd get the hang of things right away. For that matter--- it would sure be nice if Zorro could figure out which end is which.

(--oh and ignore my makeshift nest, it was just a slap-job, but does the trick)

Brahma, my understanding is that the open part of the sale, the poultry starts at 8 a.m. It's the auction that starts at 11. Here's a quote from the email I got:" The sale will start with tack type items at 11:00 the swap on poultry will start at 8:00 the address is 305 s fry if you come in on 54 hwy to the 4 way stop go south on 75 hwy 3 blocks on your right." Justin Kramer

I'm planning on being there also, so maybe we'll run into each other.

Awww, Danz, Chopper is such a cute name, he doesn't sound like he knows he's a duck! I think your DH is as taken with him as you are, how funny.

My Welsumer Lisbeth has laid her first egg since her best friend, Misty, died last spring in May or June from reproductive complications. She went through a light molt and then a heavier one and was pretty listless for a while, but she has seemed fine since Christmas. Her egg is the lovely dark brown one on the top row between the EE eggs. The pink one to the left comes from my GLW.
I can't tell you how relieved I am to have another of her lovely dark eggs and her healthy and laying again.

Congrats on the egg Sharol. That's a long time for not laying.
Hawkeye, chickens do dumb things. They make up their own mind where they are going to lay. Some lay in the same spot every day and others just drop it out where ever they are standing. I think they like to plan Easter egg hunts the way they hide them here and there. I've wondered how it is going to affect the hens I put in runs, rather than letting them run free every day. Sure hope they don't lock up the egg machines on me.
My white Seramas haven't laid an egg since I put them in their own cage even though they are still in the same coop they were before. Dumb birds.
My silkies are still laying faithfully since I put them in a tractor. Who knows why they do what they do?

Zorro was trying to breed her when I was grabbing the egg and he was on her BACKWARDS!! I mean, seriously... world's dumbest birds live right here at my home.

Well Hawkeye, maybe you should talk to Ivy about AI until Zorro figures out which end is which!!

How does AI work in a chicken? When I worked for a large animal vet I used to help AI the cattle, so I'm familiar with that process but I'm guessing the procedure is a little different with a hen.

Ewwww. For that matter, how do you collect the rooster's semen? Once again, the process we used on the bulls doesn't seem like it would be tolerated so well by a roo.

Well, I would not want one of those bull stimulators up any of my roo's rears, but it involves some stroking, on the back, towards the tail, and a little feather ruffling, and a spoon.
