Heya- it was nice talking to you- hope I didn't overwhelm you with options!

Call me back if you want any of the chicks that hatch this coming week. I'll have Blue and Black Orpingtons for certain.

Are you before 192 or by the Greenhouse

I am north of 92, south of Time to Plant, east of the school, west of the Oskaloosa lagoon. :-þ LOL

I think i know right where you are. Do you live on a corner with a small pond about a mile or two off 59

Might I suggest you invest in some nice long earth anchors, if you haven't already, to hold that puppy down. I was sure more comfortable during those recent very windy days knowing my girls were well anchored. Nice coop!

Good idea. The guy who built it has attachments for anchors already in place, so I'll promote those to my DH.

Nothing worthwhile is easy. We tried cutting a window yesterday. Dang, that stuff is thick. Industrial grade steel siding. Long and short, we are hiring a handyman friend to come out with the right tools and cut them on Thursday. We tried heavy tin snips, a jig saw, and a hack saw and ended up with a ragged, half cut hole. Murphy's law in action. He said he would cut the holes, then on the weekend, we will do the window framing inside and out and attach the window panels and pop door panel.

I'll post pictures of the progress when there is anything to post.

The good news is that we got the paint bought, and my DH is good with a table saw, so the framing for the windows is going well as is the prep work for the nest boxes. OH, yes, and the structure is VERY solid and sound. During the week, I'll get the painting done and the 2x4's marked for the roosts so DH can cut them (I'm still leary of that saw). If I have all the parts ready when the windows are done, it shouldn't take too long to finish the thing.

Hi Sharol. You are in the process of doing just about what I am doing. I bought an antique horsedrawn blacksmith wagon for a new coop. We lost two barns in a windstorm and needed something! This this is solid and heavy. We just got it moved home the other day, set it down yesterday, and today I will be cleaning it out and hopefully getting it painted inside, too.

The first order of business was to eliminate a family of mice that came with it. Our shop cat, an adopted stray we call, "Snakey" took care of that problem as soon as we put her in there.

I have a picture of my "coop" on my BYC page if you care to look. I will post pictures as progress is made.

I'll be building pens and runs soon. I bought a big roll-out egg nest at a farm auction and I will be installing that, too.

About that table saw. I bought one years ago, after my divorce. I also bought enough wood working tools to be able to do some minor woodworking. I like doing that kind of stuff. That tabel saw has sure come in handy many times.
