Something that works well for a nest for the muscovies, but might work for the turkeys also, is to cut a barrel into fourths. Once crosswise and once lengthwise. You end up with 4 half rounds with a back wall. A board fastened across the front to keep the sides in place and that is it. If placed over dirt, they can dig down which is what the scovies like to do and or fill it with bedding. Size of your barrel will determine the size of the nest.

I may have to try this, my muscovies, are laying eggs out in the goat pen, and well the dogs, casper, and earl, make short work of the eggs. I really don't care if they hatch any, but as hard as they work to build the nests, just might be an option for them.

Hey just had a thought. If I cut a plastic barrel in half, and then just cut enough of a hole for the hens (muscovies) to go in, they should be able to get back far enough that the dogs could not reach back and get the eggs. Have to go do some looking for barrels.

Danz ~ does your mailman deliver to the neighbor that gets the Shopper? If, the Shopper is delivered by the mailman and delivers to both of you, maybe you could ask the mailman if he has extras you could have. Our Shopper is delivered with the mail on Tuesdays. I can also watch for a Sutherlands flyer. Manards ads are in it.

I am having the hardest time finding some silkie pullets. I would take a roo too but want at least 2 pullets. They can be pet quality and any color. Can anyone help me???

Hi there - if you know where they live, they absolutely would not mind your driving up to their homeplace and knocking on the door - in fact, usually they see an "English" vehicle coming, and will come out to greet you. Since they don't have phones, that is really the only way to contact them, unless you know the PO mailing address, then you could drop them a note. You could google "Amish community" and the approximate zipcode areas, and see if you can find out more about the specifics of where they live. My best guess is, if you could get ahold of them, you'd be happier with the sturdiness and longevity of an Amish built building than a kit from anywhere. And likely cheaper to boot.

Sarajoy there are Amish nearby-about 30 miles but I wouldn't know how to contact them. Some Amish farm the other part of the 240 acres of this farm that someone else bought. If I happen to see them out working I might be able to ask one of them. Not much farming going on right now though. I backed out of buying the building as much as I hated to. I do have a couple names to call to find out just how much it would cost me to have a building put up though so maybe I'll be ready for next time
