Consolidated Kansas

What they don't know won't hurt them! Actually I think they'd have to be in the cargo area and I'd probably have to pay extra. I have brought back live sea life before in a luggage. But that was different. I put them in a sealed thermos.
Okay so maybe I would be a great great aunt to the chicks!

Congrats on the babies sharol, I hope the other one hatches for you.

I just got back from seeing my Ortho Dr for a follow up on my broken leg. He says it's progressing OK, but it's going to take months for it to get back to normal, geez not what I really wanted to hear. I'm still having swelling behind that knee & he says that's to be expected & I should still be icing it, so I guess I get to spend some more time with the ice bag, oh goody. Then I walked over to my regular Dr's office to have my ear checked, I can't hardly hear out of it & she says it's allergy related. She did give me an script for an antibiotic just in case I need it, but she thinks it will clear up if I get my allergies under control. It's that time of year for me with everything starting to bud out, the trees are worse for me this time of year. In the fall it's the grasses & some weeds, but right now it's the trees. It sure doesn't make me feel well whatever the cause is.

I have more chicks due on Sunday, so I'm trying to get brooders cleaned & chicks moved to get ready for that. I'm starting to have some of the breeds that hadn't been laying start to produce eggs, so I hope they get with the program. My laying flock is producing about a dozen & a half a day now, that builds up pretty fast.

So get this I went to oklahoma to pick up sweedish flower hen chicks for my friend ashly now she doesnt know if she wants them meep! Guess I need to get busy and build another pen I have set up this old kitchen cabinet thats in the barn for brooding but they grow quick.....orphaned chickens

Oh wow, that would really aggravate me. I love my Swedish Flower Hen chickens, they're so pretty & friendly. The only issue I'm having right now with them is all of the sudden after growing up together & always being in the same pen my two roosters are now duking it out. Yesterday they had each other's combs all bloodied up. I guess they're just going to have to work it out because I have no place else to put one.

One of Copper's chicks is brown. A sort of golden smooth brown without any striping. It should be EE/BO/Blue Copper Marans (the roo is from 2 EE parents for what that's worth). The second is stripy like a chipmunk (typical of EE's). I haven't gotten a look at the third one yet. I'll get pictures when she lets them out from under her. They are pretty active for just a day (or half a day) old.

I'm so glad that all 3 hatched.

Lots of posts since I last posted. The boys came home and I'm busy with 3 projects due this week at work so this is the first chance I get to be online since I'm waiting for a file to be built for my testing.

Sharol - Congrats on Copper being a mother of 3 cute fuzzy butts!

Trish - Take it easy on your leg. Gues it will heal when it does. Sounds like it is taking its own sweet time to heal according to your doc.

Danz - Sorry to hear that your pricey chicks didn't make it (except for the 3). USPS has always strikes me as careless. I worry about chicks being shipped and handled by them. Eggs is more fragile than chicks... Saw that you sold 3 of your peafowls. I asked DH if he wants to try another couple peafowls and he said he needs to think about it. I know he has his mind set on getting horses though. We will see... I know nothing about horses.

Cleansquared - Sorry to hear that your friend doesn't want the SFH chicks. Such a shame... guess her loss is your gain?!?!

Others - Sorry... I tried to remember what I read but can't retain who else have posted.

Welcome to all the new comers. We have a bunch of nice people on the forum. Come ask questions, chit chat, post pics, etc.

The weather has been so crazy the last few days that even my body is having a hard time adjusting. I birds have been doing well... Put 2 roosters in the freezer camp and will be doing 2 more this weekend for a friend. Tax season is nearing. This means the phones will be ringing off the hook from now until 4/15. I'll be off to training in California end of April/early May. Then I'm off to visit my family in Jun for 2.5 weeks. There was talk about sending someone to India to train new employees. Not sure it will be me or someone else. I hope it is someone else. :) I would like to enjoy some down time, tending to my garden instead of flying across the ocean to another country for a few weeks. Speaking of garden, my seedlings are growing OK. I think they are being affected by the cold Spring weather. None of my bell pepper seeds sprouted. Only a handful of eggplant seeds sprouted. But almost all my heirloom tomatoe seeds have sprouted and doing well. Lets hope we get some decent weather in a few weeks so they can be planted in the ground. I plan to can the extras for winter so fingers crossed that I'll have a successful garden this year.

You really are ambitious Tweety. I was going to start some seeds but couldn't find what I wanted. I want to plant some of the chinese cucumber and the orange tomatoes I planted last year. I need to get a new fence put in for the geese if the weather ever straightens out and that is going to change the shape of my garden a little. I won't be able to grow vining plants on the outside fence then because the geese would eat them all. I was also going to plant some onion sets but I wanted the bunch onions to grow some green onions with. So far all I've got are the dried bulbs to plant. I looked at some seed potatoes yesterday but they were in bags and every bag had rotten potatoes in it. I would rather pick my own some place I can get them bulk.
My garlic is coming up nicely but it is all I have so far. I planned to plant a bunch of radishes so I could feed the tops to the peafowl but I haven't found really cheap seed yet. I want to plant lots so I can feed them all summer with them.
I hope your DH decides he wants peafowl. Horses are so expensive to keep and you have to know so much about them. I always wanted to get a mini pony for my granddaughters but talked myself out of it as I learned what expenses a horse was. I think I'll stick to growing fowl and maybe a pig or calf to eat eventually.
I'm not feeling good at all today. I don't even know why for sure. I have too many aches and pains right now to be able to say for sure.
I've been trying to rig up some auto waterers for the incubators. I ordered some parts and I think I am going to try to find an adapter to have two incubators run of one bucket. I think it can be done fairly easily. I had one broken one I am repairing then I'll work on rigging up the others. It will probably mean a trip some where to find some fittings.
Sharol can't wait for the chick pics. I hatch so many I never think about taking pictures.

I am looking forward to her bringing them out. I finally got a look at the third one. It looks like the pure Marans chicks last summer at a glance. Nearly all black. I had to back off, though, she was about done with me pawing through her feathers looking for babies.

You are ahead of me on the garden. We got the compost spread, but i didn't till yet, so I can't plant. Tilling this weekend if the weather cooperates, and peas and maybe potatoes and onions in the ground (if it doesn't rain too soon).
