Consolidated Kansas

I got 9 eggs today!!!!! I only have one more left to start laying!! I bet those of you who have been doing this for a long time just had a reminiscent moment.

I just started the incubation process last night, 20 in. we'll see what happens... My DH wouldn't leave me alone to start a batch, so I gave in. Hold on ladies!!!! I didn't let him win. Let me explain. I told him I committed to doing the Easter HAL with BYC for my first hatch ever so I am not starting a batch until the 14th period! Unless..we buy a second incubator so I can still participate. We went shopping for one as soon as I got home from work!!!
What a great hubby!
Kskingbee, your interested in spauldings? The vet that also bathed my dog in concordia had some high percentage ones that she said she needed to sell but just hadn't got around to it, it was a young male. She said she has problems with TT in the babies as she puts them in an aviary over the winter. I am betting too high perches with not enough landing room is the problem. I don't know if she still has them as its been pretty rough winter and her adults only had open on one side shelter but she had a very nice pen. If they were ib's no prob but I thought greens needed more heat? Her husband who was the vet died a couple of months ago so she might have sold them all. If you want I could give her a call and check on what she has, if they lived, if she wants to sell some etc? They were huge honkin birds for sure! So much larger than ib's. I didn't tell her I wanted any as I was afraid they would beat mine up!

I guess I should buy all her babies up, hmmm? Lol.

Oh and danz, anytime you have an overflow later on let me know. Looks like part of April I may be gone though .

I went ahead and planted just a few onions just to see how they do, it was a real sunny patch that's sheltered. I am ready for fresh plants, etc.
If you check on those Spauldings I'd love to buy a pair of young ones. Let me know what you find out. Maybe we could work out an egg/peafowl train.

Lost my alpaca this evening. Sigh. I worked so hard to save her and I just don't know what the problem was.

half of my peas and half of my alpacas in about a week.
So sorry for your losses. It seems when one thing bad happens then a couple more always do. Hope things get better.
I've got a busy day ahead and really wanting to go to Yates Center to see if I can get myself in trouble buying things I don't need. I sure am lacking self control.

So sorry about the alpaca, prairie.

It's such a pretty day here, I need to get out and get some work done myself-Jose off the poopy porch, unload my chicken feed, etc.

Let me know what all you guys buy this weekend, I am excited! I am such an enabler!

I just went out to the coop and my beautiful splash orp rooster had died overnight. :(. He was the baby from one chooks chick had given me. He was so pretty.
You will be missed, my pretty baby!

Thanks for the kind words, everyone!! I'm trying to figure out what to do so my other one doesn't stress out really bad from being alone with no other alpacas.

Sorry about your rooster thnder!!! That's so sad when that happens. :hugs

The ligaments are gone on my doe that I've been waiting on to kid so Hopefully we'll have hooves on the ground by this evening! I'm So Excited!! :celebrate :weee

Those who have been on here forever probably remember speckled hens big beautiful bbs orp boy, Suede. She also had a crazy barred rock named Lexie. I had one of Lexie very few babies, Lily. Lily was my 4th chicken I ever owned and was crazy as a bedbug. But I was in love with Suede and the bbs orps. At that time there were only like 2 imported ones in the country that anyone knew of!

I continued to be entranced though by that blue rooster, Suede. I got eggs from speckledhen, but they I can't remember, I think the postman left them on my porch in baking 105 heat etc,

Anyhow it never worked out I got eggs from Suede. a year or two later we moved to the country and I got bbs eggs from someone down south.

I hatched a really pretty rooster along with several hens that actually turned out to be Suede's brothers eggs/children but no one realized it til later, it was rather funny how it turned out. I named him Big Daddy and he died at 11 months valiantly defending his flock from a neighbors dog. :(

Anyhow lily wouldn't allow any rooster to mate her til she started having health issues at the end. I managed to hatch the only batch of fertile eggs she had with a son of Big Daddy's, but all her progeny but 1 was eaten by a fox. So I ended up with this cross between a barred rock and a bbs orp that has been an outstanding specimen and a heck of a survivor. He is 6 years old now, has always been enormous and pretty but has a bum leg from a TT and bumble foot that never healed properly. That's the only thing about the orps I hate, they get SO huge many have leg problems. :( my splash also had some probs in this regard.

I named this guy Lillikin and the only reason I bring him up is my pretty splash orp would never even let Lillikin out in the yard. He hid under a ledge for the last Year and a half. Anyway, he is Ecstatic!

He is guiding the old senior orp girls around and swishing his tail and is acting like he is 1 again! I was so sad at losing my roo until I saw Lillikin out frolicking today. I have never seen him frolick before. So some good has come of it.

He is a real sweetie and I do love him.

Well prairie and thndrdancr I guess some good came around after your bad luck.
I had a hen I've noticed sitting a lot lately. She was one of my older brahma girls. Nothing really special. Well today I pulled her out of the project pen and discovered both of her eyes are really cloudy. I think she is blind. I'm not sure I did the right thing since she is used to that pen. I just put her with the layers this evening in hopes she would be able to find food and water. She's pretty thin so I think she's had trouble getting enough nutrition. I don't have much hope for her lasting long. She wasn't anything special. I was just using her for her feather markings more than anything.
Later today I gathered eggs. I had procrastinated and not done it earlier. I came in with two full buckets. Obviously the chickens appreciated the warmer weather. I gathered several goose eggs but since they were so muddy from all the wet we had I hope they will still be viable.

Jill! A grandson of Lexie, awesome! I sure miss those first Barred Rock hens I had back then. Thanks for telling me about the photo here; you're right, I never would have seen it. Not many are related to Lexie, Hawkeye AND Suede!

Oh that is rough,  :hugs   I lost a special yearling peahen last Christmas and I couldn't even talk about it for days.

Thanks! Its not easy that's for sure. I am glad she's not suffering anymore. I'm also feeling kind of relieved to not be stressing about trying to save her and wondering what's wrong and all the doctoring. Chores were a breeze this evening!
We got my chicken coop sealed finally today too so that was awesome to get that out of the way. :) The Penofin turned out to be a lot oranger than I wanted but it was leftover from what we used to mix the color for the house so I'm not going to be picky.
