Consolidated Kansas

Do your swedish flowers actually forage and go broody? How close are they to the original landrace?
I have 7 hens and the rooster and only 1 has gone broody each year. They forage fine, and are easy keepers. Very noisy though. Super friendly - several of them are more like puppies than chickens. I wouldn’t know how close to original landrace - all of mine are from Meyers. My hens don’t lay a ton of eggs, and the size and color of egg between hens is all over the place, from small tan ones to giant almost white eggs.

Been a fat minute since I've been here and posted.

Thought id jump on to say Hello.

I am noticing that this thread isn't as active as it once was.

Rooster in NE KS needs a new home. 6 month old Swedish Flower. Not mean or aggressive, but he is big and nosy. Reason for rehoming is flock dynamics just making things too complicated to manage. Asking $25.
OK now he's FREE. Nice to his hens, not nice to my kids, so he's not working out here. He's got a great crow, and he's beautiful and healthy. Very watchful. Would be great addition to a free range flock (but without young kids around)!

I'm in Cowley and have a possible broody. She stayed on the nest last night, she's clucking and snapping at me, but she hasn't settled yet. She always goes broody twice a year, April and Oct-Nov.

Anyone in the Cowley area who might have eggs available soon? I'm looking specifically for large, well mannered, and proven free rangers with a strong broody tendency.

She's sitting on six eggs, and I have another six in the incubator. All of her chicks have been boys, so she has only one of her own eggs.

I'm running about 90% male at this point. 23 chicks right now, 3 girls.

That seems like terrible odds! Hopefully some of these eggs turn out to be female!

And another pullet has gone broody. 🤣 This one is untested. Trying to decide if I should give her the eggs in the incubator, or let her sit on fake eggs and give her the chicks...

I can't stand following a bunch of different threads that only get hit occasionally...

I'd like to form a consolidated Kansas thread and point the other Kansas threads to it- so this is the new Consolidated Kansas thread, and I'll post a link to it on the other threads.

Hooray!! Go Oz chickens!!!
I'm out almost to KS/CO border. Look forward to hearing from some more KS chicken folks! Seramas, Silkies, and some Silverudd Blues keep me busy....
