Ha! Just had a conversation about that a sec ago! Explanation here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/forum/viewtopic.php?id=474631

I see more white than black, but I believe you since you have lots of experience.
I am elated! I'm the only man in the house. I have my wife, daughter, two dogs, and adopted dog, and they are all girls. Now I have a man to hang out with. I am definitely keeping this guy. He lets me pick him up and hold him, and he just sits there and coos. How cool is that.

You were right Chooks, I'm loving this stuff. (Okay, I'm a dork.)

Reading again, I just contradicted myself. But still happy. Nice to have a boy in the house.

My hubby is the same way- loves the dog as a male pal. Have tons of females all around...daughters...etc.

If you keep the handling daily and carry him around a bit when you move them outdoors, he'll always trust you. It's a great way to build a good relationship with him, and he'll protect your birds and signal to them. I always offered my favorite boys treats first as chicks, so they really look forward to my visits.

You'll see conflicting statements, but this has always worked well for me- nary a mean roo yet! ...And I've had my share of roos! And yours, and theirs, and theirs, and hers, and his...lots o'roos!

Michael,
Now how about a " IM SORRY" ya know for making fun of me at Christmas for being hooked on these lil ' critters. Now I must make fun of you for playing with your. ......... ROO!. I cant say the other. .......LOL!

Doesn't look like he's the only boy in the group.....so you should have plenty of male company.

Katy's right, since those are destined to be food, I thought it was a flock of testosterone...can you imagine hatching that ratio?

I didn't know those were fryers.....thought maybe they were a straight run group.

I had a batch that I hatched last fall about 37 out of 41 eggs hatched and all but 5 or 6 were roosters!!!!

That's maybe a statistical pre-pay and you'll get a flock that's all girls next?

HA! It would be nice, but I'm not holding my breath!!

Okay, folks!

Word is out on the feed that everyone who just got a bag to try it is in love, and so I'm having to look at next week for making up more. I am going to tweak the recipe a bit, so the price will shift a tad. I'm also going to have a second mix made up specifically for sprouting grains. I think the sprouting grains will come out to around $14 a bag, and the feed will likely be nearer $25. It may break down to less, but I'm just not sure.

If you're interested in ordering some, or trying some, let me know. It lasts much longer than traditional manufactured feed and so count on a 50# bag lasting about 1 1/2 times as long, if not more. I'll be having the grit mixed into this run, to prevent the need to purchase that, as many folks didn't have any. That's one of the things that will raise it a tad. Also, I forgot to charge for the bagging, which runs $1.10 per bag- it's cheaper if we reuse bags or fill barrels or tubs...wait I did mention that because someone was asking about pics of the sake tubs. Lemme go get one!

Okay, here's the bin with a boot (my only footwear 1/2 the year because I have crappy circulation and these are WARM!!):

Here's the inside:

The handles are built strong enough to hold these when they're full of liquid, and they come with an inner lid that seals against moisture, then the screw on lid. I LOVE these.

I'll pick up some next time Bargain Depot gets them in, if you guys want any- they're $8 plus tax each. You can call and see when they'll get more- it's on 23rd St in Lawrence.

I have 8 or so, I think. Each holds nearly 2 bags of feed. I have them stationed throughout the property to have feed near each coop. LOVE them.
