I got those driving back from the Lone Star area to Lawrence...it looked like there were a couple of people pulled over with windshield damage- it was hard to tell because these things splattered and shattered as they hit- maybe softer than usual? I expected to find my car totaled from the damage, and was shocked to see almost nothing...then again it was still raining and in the dark...

It was really bad when it hit right near the dam. Hope everyone is okay!

The conventional wisdom is to wait until they are around the same size before integrating. The issue there of course is that if your others are full grown, the chicks won't be the same size for many months. I currently have two that are 22 weeks and they are still noticeably smaller than my adult girls who are over a year old. If you do a search on BYC for "integration" you will find more information but in a nutshell, I have found space to be your friend. The more space you can offer them, the fewer issues you will have. Also, if you can put out more than one feeder/waterer, you will decrease the ability of the older girls to keep the younger ones from eating/drinking.

I had that problem last summer. I set the traps but didn't catch a single mouse - I guess the free chicken food was enough that they weren't tempted even by the peanut butter in the trap that I had heard was certain to catch them. My problem was somewhat solved when my Red Star discovered the joys of mousing and starting catching and eating them. None of the others figured it out (though they were happy to steal hers and eat them if they could) and she was unfortunately killed by the neighbor's dog in November so this summer I may not have any help in catching them. I keep thinking I need to get a Buckeye or two but right now I'm at capacity and can't get any more....
