I'm sure I don't need to repeat how I feel about swap-cooties to all the new folks. You can tell them for me!

At fear of being Banned I choose to remain silent

Hi, everyone.

Popping in to remind everyone about the recognition awards.

We want to validate the efforts and contributions of our members who give sooo much. This community is special because of the efforts of its members, and we all want to honor that.

NOW: get to nominating, if you haven't already!

Remember, each BYC member may nominate one member each month for each of the three recognition categories: BYC Friend, BYC Educator, and BYC Spirit. That's three nominations each month, and we want to see more submissions!

Use the Nomination Submission Form to make your suggestions.

Thanks!

If I were you, I'd bring the starter if you want to sell it below new price by a little. There is a sellers fee but you are welcome to drop by where I'm at and sell it from there and save $5. My first name is Verna. You'll recognize me by my extreme beauty combined with a little chicken poo!

Uh .... well, maybe you should just look for my vehicle. I will either be in a green dodge pickup with a red topper or a black Subaru outback. Judging from all I need to bring, I will probably have the ugly old pickup.
I plan to have some button quail, lots of young cochin roosters, some salmon faveroles, lots of Malaysian Serama youngsters, some bantam polish kids, a Yokohama roo, Some various full sized polish, gold laced, silver laced. A group of Brabanters, a bunch of baby ducks, etc etc. That is, if I can manage to load them all. Plus heaven knows what I forgot. I have a bunch of mixed and/or purebred baby chicks I might bring as well. .... if there is any room.
I love doing chicken talk. I've learned more from other sellers than any of the books etc I've gotten hold of.
The one thing I wish someone would do for these swap meets is set up a concession stand with coffee and water, soft drinks, snacks, etc. That would sure help! If I had a camper or way to run electric I'd do it for sure, 'cause you'd make a fortune.
And bring your boxes or cages so you can buy lots of stuff!

A well organized legal swap meet requires all birds to be tested. I personally am NPIP certified to test. I wouldn't buy from anyone questionable or anyone who has sick looking birds. I've seen some questionable people at some "just show up and sell" swap meets but not at this one. If you know your birds, talk to your sellers, and can tell a sick bird when you see one why worry? Even if you don't buy it's a great place to get to know other people with your interests. Just sayin'

Estes has wonderful birds in some of their breeds, as they've bought out some well-recognized flocks in the past...but a little secret: Orscheln's birds are Estes! You can actually just get the stock from a local store if you have one. What are you looking for (I missed that part)?

Edited to add- ducks, right?

Renee, The reason I looked into Estes Hatchery was because someone mentioned they supply Orscheln. First time I've seen one that had a minimum # order. I'm thinking runners, Welsh Halequins, kahki campbells. Glad to know Estes raises quality birds, but unless they're separated and marked I have no clue what I'm looking at. Right now (well yesterday) they have a tank full of the most darling little ducks, some yellow with spots, some light brown, some black. No one there knows what breeds they are or care to be able to enlighten the customers. I'd probably go buy some tomorrow if I knew they were what I wanted. I just don't want to take pot luck.

CarolAnn - try going to www.feathersite.com and look for the breeds of ducks you are interested in. They usually have pictures of some of the babies also. That way you can at least see pictures of the ducklings you are interested in.

Good thing Orschelns is so far away from me.

Those spotted ducklings might be Ancona which is a breed I would like to get some of. Too far away to tempt me.
