According to their website it would seem they only have ordinances against "fowl at large" like we have here in Topeka! I'd double check this beings as their site is extremely unhelpful, but for sure make sure whatever coop is 100% secure... Paying a fine for a little harmless chicken getting loose would really suck!

Thanks, yea, they're not the clearest on their city ordinances. But hey - since the poultry museum is in Bonner Springs it should be all good..right?

I was hoping to be able to free range them but yea - a fine wouldn't be worth it. Guess if we buy the place we'll have to be building some chicken tractors.

Again this is something Renee is good at the whole PR thing Renee is great at tearing the Cities Ordinances to pieces. Maybe we could al get behind this to allow some birds

That's what I'll be building from now on! A little added security by putting hog panel across the bottom

Always good to have someone with some know how on your side! I'd sure do whatever I could to help get rid of these stupid "bird at large" fines...

Plus I've got a neighbor across the road that wants chickens really bad, but she can't because since she owns a corner lot (and her house sits back quite a bit) she would have to house them on her front lawn to keep them past the 50 ft from neighboring homes required by city ordinance here! Heck I have a perfect spot just outside the dining room window that would make a great spot for a pen if only it was taken away or reduced to 20ft!

Well at our first meet and greet I remember Renee talking about going to battle with the city of Lawrence maybe I am wrong I have slept since then.....lol. It was right about the time someone from Roeland Park was all over the news with there battle as well and she won too. I wish I could remember the conversation. MikeKsFarmer might remember

I have to plant my veggies in the ground I put anything in a pot and i kill it. I have tried every kind of plant and nothing stays alive I plant my garden and it goes crazy I have lettuce and spinach about ready to pick and all the other plants are growing. I enlarged my garden this year.

To all of you! Herbs in pots on the deck. if you have to put some tomatoes in the flower bed. Dont over do it, just enjoy it! My brother is getting his tomatoes eaten off by his chickens. You can have both its all about planning and managing! I wish you all some thing from your garden that will make at least one meal better. We can feed the world with just green; we can feed about 10% on meat! You live in a land that can have both!! If you havent started consider tomatoes and peppers!!!

I am making raised garden bed in my back yard. I have it all planted. I am going to do a raised garden in the front yard for some hot peppers and a few other things. Next year I might make my herb garden in the front yard. Less area to mow that way. I live in town and try and use as much space for growing food as I can. I have 2 fruit trees and a raspberry bush planning on buying more bushes this year. As long as I plant in the ground I am fine I can grow anything. Put anything in a pot and its dead.

I bought 7 ducklings at Orscheln a little over two weeks ago. Hatchery Choice. One was all yellow, a little bigger than the others. Man do ducks grow fast! Well this one seems to do more sitting than the others and always. In the last week it has been moving around "on it's knees" (so to speak) and then when it stands seems to be having a little trouble getting around. We wonder if it's having growing pains because it's growing so fast. It does eventually walk normal but not for long periods when I am out there watching. I'll post pics later when I can figure out this new pc.
