I know this isn't the selling area but wanted to give you guys first chance at these birds. Just letting you all know I have tons of Malaysian Seramas and need to clear out a bunch. If any of you would like to get some breeding stock I would be glad to sell you pairs really cheap. Some of them are near point of lay and some are already laying. I will also give anyone who buys pairs a free rooster if they want it. These are very nice birds. I have all sizes but have learned the larger birds are more prolific and have produced many smaller sized offspring. Just send me a PM if interested.

Are malaysian seramas an APA accepted variety? I ask because I am wanting to get more 4-H'ers started with poultry, and want to stick with accepted varieties. Some of the smaller kids do better with a smaller bird, so am just wondering.

Yes they were accepted into the APA and the ABA in April of 2011. I have sold several to kids that showed them in 4-H this year.
I'm sorry but I don't know what the standards are in the U.S.
I have some awesome birds. My latest breeder stock came from a breeder that sells size B pairs for over $200 each. The birds themselves seem to be larger (extra long tails etc.) but the offspring has been really small. I've probably got every color combination possible.

Danz, these seramas- they have little tiny eggs? Do they get along with standard breeds? Are they really laid back? Will they get picked on? Just curious!

Oooh, so I've been out working on the coop and I have the outside all done!! I just need to put the roof on now. My DH is out running 20 miles, so it'll be a while before he gets back. But he promised me he'd help me build the trusses today. I'm so excited! I hope we can get the roof put on. For now, I really should run back out there and get the inside plywood started. Sigh. I may throw myself a little party when I get this monster done. HA!!!

I showed my DH your pictures. He was impressed that you did that well for a first build. He is ultra picky too!
Seramas get along fine with other chickens. Believe me they don't get picked on. They are really fast moving. I have a couple customers that say their Seramas are the ones that pick on new birds they introduce. Most of mine are segregated into their own pen but I have a few I accidentally released with the other chickens. They get along fine and just seem to be a miniature version of the others. They are a very docile chicken that loves human attention when they get used to you. I have too many to sit and play with though. So it takes a couple days for mine to attach to a person. Their eggs are tiny. They are genuinely a novelty chicken.
I just had some people show up and buy 10 guineas and 2 ducks. I wasn't planning to sell the ducks but money talks.
I was going to keep the rest of my guineas for next spring but I have plenty so it didn't hurt to sell them.

Didn't you mention one time you have a good avian vet that you use? I have an issue with a couple ducks I need to clarify. I've got a great vet but he has nothing to do with poultry.
Anyone else that knows of one, chime in. Closest larger towns to me are Emporia and Ottawa.
I like to circumvent any problems before they actually are problems.

I've got mama trauma tonight. I just put the 18 wk olds (4 ee's and a BO) in with the year olds. They have been free-ranging and intermittently sharing a run for 6 weeks, but I am really nervous about this transition. I waited until it was almost dark and put them in the coop on the roost. My head chook already has her bluff in with them, and so does the 2nd in command, so no one felt the need to be an enforcer.

My plan is to check on them about 10 and then get out there just before sunrise to open the pop-door for them and take morning mash. The weather is finally more moderate -- 84 right now with a really nice low predicted, so the time is right.

Wish me (and my babies) luck. They have to be completely integrated by the 11th of September because I have to leave for a week, and my DH doesn't need trauma.
