I have Silkie chicks now, but you can't sex them for months...and I can't take back roos, so if I sell them to you, you need to have a back-up plan! In this area, 4Hers are a good way to get boys out to homes that will love them. pm me and we can get together! I have Black, Blue and Splash, and should have Partridge and Blue Partridge in a month or so.

Hawkeye- Yawning can also be just crop adjustment, and not necessarily anything to worry about. Check their poofs for white sand-like things at the base of the feathers- that shaking of the heads can be a sign of lice, which you can treat with Sevin dust from the garden section of the big box stores.

Danz- I've been thinking about you and praying you are well soon! Guineas are happily in their new home and the lady who bought them is tickled pink with them. Their new leader (her lonely male) is awash in happiness.

To all: Sorry I haven't been on much- was out of town over and over again lately, most recently in the woods in Arkansas and without a signal for the whole time.

Hope everyone had a great holiday and that you're all doing well!

Chooks, I'm glad the male guinea has found his wives to be acceptable. I think I cleaned out the most of the females. When I get well I think I''ll try to separate any females and put them in the breeder pen. I guess if people are serious about wanting them for bug control next spring they will pay for them regardless of sex. I still have tons to do as far as moving birds around for the remainder of the winter.
LN2008, I hatched several black silkies the last couple days. I of course to plan to hatch a lot more come spring. I also have a variety of polish. Whi over black bantams and LF Polish silver laced, gold laced, a a few rare black over white. I have a blue hen but sold my male because one hen didn't warrant keeping a roo. She has however thrown some beautiful off spring with some of the other roos including one chocolate. Just ask come spring. I normally start hatching spring chicks in January but it doesn't look like I'll be ready this year to produce the pure breds that early.
To the others of you; I scored a cast iron rooster on a ball. It came off a barn door at an auction in the northeast part of the country. I am suspecting it could be half of a big old fashioned weather vane. But I think it will make an awesome chicken house door decoration. I now have quite a collection of cast iron decorations to hang whenever I get around to it.
Ivy, since I am down to just one white Serama roo and a few hens I want to separate them from the group. I think there will be about 5 of them. I thought I might make them a separate cage area inside the Serama house at least for the winter. I know they would miss getting out. How much area do you think I would need for the 6 of them? I don't want to overcrowd them but I certainly can't build another house and pen this time of year either.

Check out this ad on Craigslist today, I couldn't believe the way they wrote it.

Hawkeye, yes I've been back to El Paso in the bigger clinic. My little dogs both had surgery there because my friend recommended Dr. Herod for tiny dogs. I was concerned with especially my Yorkie since she barely weighed 5 pounds & she did great. He even let me take both of them home instead of making them stay overnight to care for them myself.

Here are some new pics of my GP puppies
This was right before Big Red went after Jasmine

Very strange add indeed. I wonder if she even knows what breed she has? Do you get the impression because this particular chicken doesn't like being held they are getting rid of it?

That is very strange. I wonder what they feed it? She said she would let you know when you picked it up. I have a feeling that they will be getting rid of all of them when they get bigger. She seems like a case of the kids begging for the cute little chicks and now they are getting bigger so she is ready to dump a few. Is that an EE? I have one just like it and that is what I have been calling mine.

On another note, tomorrow I will be taking my birds to be processed. I am planning on keeping my broody but getting rid of all the others. Will she be ok with just the 5 teenagers? She is still caring for her 2 6 week olds and she is a very reliable broody. She goes broody 4-5 times a year! So I want to keep her but not if she will be very lonely. If she will be lonely then I will just take her too but I don't want to. So does anyone have an opinion on this?

She'll be fine with the others. They'll grow up and be fine together.

You done with chickens?

NO!! Never!! They are just not laying anymore so I don't want to feed them! I have had a bad run with my babies this summer/fall and have lost a lot/had a lot of roosters.I wish that there was somewhere to get POL birds around here but there isn't so I am just going to get more in the spring. We are planning to get meaties in early spring so I plan on ordering some egg layers when I order them. I can't believe I am going to have to buy eggs this winter. Yuck!

I'm kind of out of commission at the moment. But I have a few mixed breeds that just started laying or slightly younger I might let go. I have some salmon faverolle cross which look nearly purebred. Either missing a muff or an extra toe and some pheonix or polish cross I would let go. Maybe a few others. I am not really looking to sell any but will, if you just need a few. You would of course have to make a drive up here. If you want to wait until a little later, at least mid December you might be able to work out something with Seramaslovers when she comes to get a cockerel for a Christmas present. You would probably have to do the catching though cause I'm not going to be able to do that that soon. Shouldn't be too difficult though.
