Consolidated Kansas

I wasn't getting notifications so I finally figured out where to subscribe again.
Are you all ready for the cold weather tonight and tomorrow? I always worry some of my dumb chickens that refuse to sleep in the buildings will get frost bit.

Danz, the radio here was saying possible flurries/snow later this evening. NOT looking forward to that. I was sooo happy with the 60 degree winter we were having. So far, this has been an amazing winter and not bad at all. The kids have been playing outside, riding bikes, etc. I hate the cold.

I'm trying to upload my picture of Zorro and it's not happening. It is taking forever. It is going around so slow-- showing that it's working on it, but maybe my connection today is bad. :(

I was wondering if it was my internet or this site was slower. Now I'm thinking it is moving slow. Maybe it's cause everyone is updating every thing.
I had an old Adobe photoshop I used for editing pictures. I bought a new adobe photoshop for this new computer. It's got lots of capabilities but I can't figure out how to upload a photo to begin with. Reading help only confuses me. I dont want to make collages or albums. I just want to crop and enhance some photos. I hate trying to read through tons of stuff I can't remember just to find a simple answer.

I'm pretty good with Adobe, so if you run into something, I can help. This site is running VERY slowly, for sure! If you want to crop some photos-- do that before you upload to this site in your adobe. The crop tool is handy and you can move it around before you commit to it. Then be sure you are saving it into something small enough that will upload easily. To upload here on the site-- you can just click into a Reply (or post) and there is a picture icon if you run your mouse over it and then click on it and it's the usual browser/upload off your pc. But I must warn you, I've been trying to upload all morning and it's not working. Well... it's going very slowly. I'm guessing the traffic on here is insane and I'll just have to keep trying or give up and do it later.

Checoukan, in all the excitement, I forgot to tell you I'm sorry about your rough night. That actually sounds a bit scary! Do you have beta blockers you take? At the hospital, they have given me the pills under the tongue instead of swallowing them. That is probably something you could have done last night. It's a great trick and one they said I should do in case I get really worried or my events are really acting up. Did you do anything to spark it? I mean, I know they can happen for no reason. But soda and some foods will set me off too. I can't drink pepsi or anything with caffeine. I hope you are feeling better. I know the 'worn out' feeling you get afterwards where you could just sleep half the day away. Did you get your birds shipped off? Did they arrive yet?? I hope they did great. :)

oh YAY! I got a photo to upload!!

Okay, this is Zorro yesterday outside. I know... more Zorro pictures. The other silkies just aren't as fun as he is! He is so friendly and likes me and loves to be pet and held... hehe! His tail is starting to come in, too. He doesn't usually hold his wings that far down, he seemed kind of confused when I dropped him in the middle of the yard to get a picture. He was kind of hunched down. Usually he stands up straight and tall with wings tucked up tight. Okay-- now I need to go fix lunch and do something other than stress over how to do things on BYC!

I think I was going through withdrawal yesterday not being able to talk on here, especially since I've had some chicks hatch.

I now have two black ameraucanas and two black copper marans chicks. One of the BA's is a wild man! He runs and jumps like he is trying to get out of the brooder. It is the first one hatched. I put them in a taller brooder because he was jumping so high I was afraid he would jump out and hit the floor. I've NEVER had a chick this wild. He runs and jumps and peeps really loud and runs over some of the other calmer chicks. If he keeps it up he may find his butt out in the cold.

Danz-It looks like it will be a lot easier to upload pictures now once it is all firgured out. I haven't tried it yet but I did watch the video. I'm kind of a visual person anyway. I hope you get it figured out because we are going to want pictures of those puppies!

BTW, I gave BOTH of my boys (K-Staters) powercat ornaments for Christmas this year. One of the things I give them every year is an ornament with their name and the year on it.

Checoukan-oh, not a fun night

. The last time that happened was when I was down there, right, or have you had other episodes? I'm sure that is scarry. Be sure to call your cardiologist and let them know. We did get a referral for Mike to a cardiologist in Topeka. We are going to go ahead and have the test done here, then depending on what they find we will forward all our records there. I got the referral from the cardiologist in Salina that I knew.

Hawkeye-glad your chicken children are learning their way back into the coop. That would be such a pain to have to crawl under there to get them in every night. They do eventually learn. I have some guineas that never did learn to go in the coop. They stayed outside most of the summer. Since they were free range I couldn't catch them to put them in at night. Now that it is cold they have managed to "learn" their way into the barn. They roost in the rafters and you know what that means. Poop everywhere.

I may have to find a good recipe for guinea stew.

Wow, did you all have withdrawal from BYC as bad I did yesterday? Whew, I kept checking every few hours to see if they had gotten the site back up yet & at 1:30 this morning when I went to bed it still wasn't up. I even went on Facebook & read a few posts on there just to see if it would make me happy, but everybody on there was just lost & nobody knew who anybody was due to the name thing. I'm sure glad it's up now though, but now I'll have to figure out how to use everything along with everybody else. I know they will have some bugs show up & glitches maybe for awhile. I'll bet their servers were busting this morning when they came up with everybody dying to get on here. I'm glad to see you all again at any rate, I missed reading your posts.

Hawkeye, I'm glad you're on the path to getting better. DH has been sick here with a sore throat & cough for a week or so, so far I have mostly staved it off, knock on wood. I know when you have kids you just don't have time to get sick, it's the pits.

Checoukan, I hope you're feeling better also, that's kind of scary. Do you have medication to take for that?

Well yesterday I got a workout, I drove up to Douglass & loaded up 52 cinder blocks by myself & then drove home & unloaded them by myself. I was done in by the time I did that & I'm kind of sore today from it, my back & arms are really feeling it. I found them on craigslist & it was a great deal that I couldn't pass up. I didn't even try to make any arrangements for DH to go with me, didn't even tell him because I knew he would find some reason why we couldn't go get them or gripe about doing it. They were at this auto shop & there were two or three big guys in there that just watched me struggling to load all of that & didn't help at all. I showed them though, I managed it all by myself, lazy jerks. But now I have the foundation for my building, yay! That's the first materials I have gotten for it. I'm waiting for DH to ask me where I got them, but so far he hasn't.

Oh Hawkeye, I didn't take any photo of the free rabbit cage before I tore into it. I should have, but I was so disgusted with how rotten the wood was on the bottom part that I just had to tear it off there. Now the frame that is left is pretty decent. I put a screw in each corner to hold one piece better & am going to add a couple pieces of 2x4s on the outside for strength & then I think it might be better. Now with this weather coming in I doubt I'll get it done until it warms up again. Darn if it had stayed nice a couple more days I could have finished it. I will have to put some kind of roof over the top or else use this one in the garage also. I haven't decided yet, but for free I couldn't pass it up. I'm thinking now of getting a couple of meat rabbits from the same girl I got my pets from so I can raise some for meat. I have raised some in the past. She is going to give me a choice of two different breeds she has & will give me a good deal. I just have to decide for sure which ones I want.

Well I was doing a couple of things at one time here, so IVY you posted while I was writing, congrats on your new babies. Wow, that one little guy sounds like a wild thing, must be a rooster to act like that! I hope he settles down. My black Ameruacana rooster finally settled down after about 3 days of being here. He & my Big Red rooster had a crow off for the first day he was here, all day long, it was kind of funny in a way. Then the 2nd day Blackie growled all day long, he was really angry that he couldn't get out there & beat the crap out of Big Red or even better, kill him & take over as #1. Then finally on day 3 he decided he wasn't going to be the top dog & gave it up, I was so glad he settled down. He seems happy enough now with his two girls. I hope they'll be OK in there with the cold coming. They have a dog house to get in & there is tarp on all but the door. It's about all I could come up with for temporary housing for them right now. I know some people's chickens sit out all winter long, I know one breeder that lives in Haysville that has open cages she keeps birds in year round, but I don't know how many birds she loses either.

BTW, how do I get my picture back under my name?
