Welcome Patricia, glad to have you! We talk about a little of everything here, but I agree we're more like a group of friends than strangers who have never met each other in person.
For those who haven't been on here in awhile, we have a new Facebook site, Kansas Poultry Swap, please come & join, we hope to have a lot of people on there so we can have a place to find birds, advertise what we have available, & maybe later on even get together somewhere to meet each other. We're up to 120 members in only a few days. For those who haven't given Candace your location, please either PM her on BYC with your name or handle, whichever you're more comfortable using & your location so we can get you on the map she's making. That will just help us to figure out where everybody is if we do decide to have a meet later on.
Well my silly pups figured out somehow & unfortunately I didn't see it, to get through my propped gate into the run this morning. I had gone into the garage & was taking care of rabbits & when I came out they were sitting inside the run, but couldn't figure out how to get back out. So I told DH that tomorrow on his day off we're going to have to get it permanently attached so they can't get in there. They still have their big bones to chew on, they haven't gotten through those yet, so it's not like they don't have anything to chew. I got them another one at the CO-OP in Ark City yesterday that looks like a dinosaur bone & I figured I would just saw it in two so they won't fight over it. Those things aren't cheap! I sure wish I could find somewhere to get big bones for them that aren't packaged already so they would be cheaper. Does anybody have any suggestions for finding some? We'll be going to Wichita tomorrow probably, so maybe we'll look around up there. I don't give my little dogs real bones, I'm afraid they will get a splinter or something, but these big pups need something serious to chew on. They eat those pig's ears I got them in about 2 minutes & they're gone.
One of my Lakenvelder hens I guess got left outside last night. DH went out with the inside dogs this morning & saw her running around. Those silly hens just give me so many fits at the time to shut everybody up every night. Last night was awful, it was windy & cold & I was trying to get them all in so I could go in out of that wind. I thought everybody was all in there when my Speckled Sussex rooster chased a hen out of the coop & run & I got the hen back in & then the rooster ran all the way up into the backyard squawking all the way. I don't know what his problem was. I finally got him in & thought the Lakenvelder hen had gone back around & gone in, but I didn't go look. I guess what she did was run up under the eve of the house where there is a honeysuckle vine that covers that area & hide there & that's where she spent the night. Every night I give my chickens BOSS for their bedtime snack & all the chickens know that & run to me to get some, that is except for the Lakenvelders. When I call all the chickens in the Lakenvelder hens see that as time to run the opposite direction for some reason. They're like defiant teenagers, it's so aggravating!
Wow IVY, those are nice cages! Yeah, what are you going to put in those? I would love to have some of those for rabbits.
