Consolidated Kansas

Ivy-Good luck with your surgery. Will be thinking about you!

Danz-YEAH!!!! So glad you caught your rogue peafowl!!! That is so stressful to have animals lose and not be able to get them rounded up.

I do think I am very, very lucky. Left her out last night and she did lots of barking and is so good about going around and keeping an eye out on everyone. I laughed at her last night because she buried her giant bone before it got dark so she wouldn't have to worry about it!!

Best $50 I ever spent!! I feel like I have a giant white babysitter out there with all my babies.

Wichitakid- Fabulous coop, very cute!!!

Trish if you check back just let me know when to expect you so I won't be gone. I have a feeling DH may want to take a trip to Emporia to buy lumber.
Yeah Renee I'm thrilled I got them back.
Susie best of luck with your surgery. I'll be praying for you. Are you getting those two turkeys that were posted on Topeka CL? Was very tempted to call about them but didn't know where I could find a Tom.

Yes, they were on the Topeka craigslist. She is going to meet up with my DH tomorrow when he is leaving to go back home. That will be convenient. She lives outside of town, so she is going to bring them in to town and meet him at the hospital. I think she was being very cautious about meeting up with a stranger or giving a stranger her address or information. Good for her. More people should be careful about that, including myself (and some others on this forum!)

DH will probably have to clip their wings for me because I don't have a way to put netting over that big pen they are in. We noticed the last 2 nights the hen we have has been sitting on the wire fence to roost at night, and she HAS her wings clipped. We might have to clip one a little more or something for now. Once they are well established I may let them free range, but I want to be absolutely sure they know where to come in to roost and where their food and water is so they always return home. Obviously they aren't ready yet.

Danz I am SO GLAD you captured your wayward peafowl. I'll bet you were happy. I had already started scouting the internet to see if I could find some reasonable replacements for you.

I candled some of the bantam partridge wyandotte eggs I have in the incubator. Most of them were clear.

I'm going to leave them all in there for now because I have plenty of room and it is still early in the incubation, but I will candle them all as I put them into lockdown. Fortunately I will be getting some more of these eggs. DH is going to pick them up Wednesday for me.

I for one am terrible about letting people come here but I have gotten much more cautious. I put a couple adds in CL lately and in my replies I have asked that they set an appointment to come and then I will give them the address and directions.I trust people here but just anyone from anywhere I am learning to be more cautiousl.
Speaking of which, DH just got a call from a fraud protection company and his card had been used 3 times in Spain! So needless to say the account has been locked and he will get a new card. I just checked my credit card for charges and need to check my bank account as well. I am always careful but you never know what might happen.
Ivy if you need anything please give me a call if you still have my number. I will be glad to do whatever you need that I am capable of.

IVY, good luck with your surgery, I hope it all goes well &
you're like new in no time.

Danz, I sent you a PM, we're on the road. Today hasn't exactly gone as planned.

Coop Update!
Thanks everyone for the kudos on the new coop. It's really coming out better than I expected. Still not sure how the nest boxes will come together, but I'm sure I'll figure something out. Was really hoping to get this done by this weekend so that I can move my current chicks into the barn to make room for the new ones arriving this week. I guess I'll have to put the divider back into the brooder box so that I have a place for the newbies until I finish the barn.

As for why the barn won't be done this weekend, I have a good reason...

My daughter had her baby this morning! A little earlier than expected; due date was April 18th. Although, I kind of like the thought of an 'April Fool's Day' birthday.
Had a little boy; 6lbs 8ozs 18.5" long. He's a cutie. Still not sure I'm ready to be a grandpa yet. Here's a quick pic taken with my phone.

Hope everyone has a great rest of the weekend!
David

Congrats, Grampa!!

Now that's two new Consolidated Kansas grandbabies this year!!

That's awesome, David. He is even nicer than your coop! Congrats on the new grand baby. Being a grandparent is a wonderful thing. Took me a while to get used to the idea but now I love it. I just don't have as much time with my grand kids as I would like. I have 5 grand daughters and keep hoping I'll get just one grandson. He will be the special one if it ever happens.

Congrats David on your grandson! You're moving a lot faster on the coop than I am! ha! I'm sure you'll get your boxes figured out. :)

Ivy, good luck with your surgery tomorrow.

Karen-- that's a lot of new chicks! Congrats on them! I'd be happy with ONE baby right now! Sigh.

Went to church this morning, so adorable-- all 3 of my kids walked down the aisle waving palm fronds. I wanted to work on my brother's coop today, but I got sunburned pretty good yesterday and am feeling the effects of it today. I hurt, and I don't want to be in the sun and make it worse. Which is a bummer since It really is close now that it's all framed up. I haven't touched any eggs in a few days! I've no idea if they are growing or not. Probably not. I might candle tonight or tomorrow. I sort of feel like flopping. I've been cleaning house and doing laundry instead. The kids didn't sleep well last night, for some reason, they all got up numerous times last night and it finally ended at 4am this morning when I'd had enough and let them know. I hate missing out on sleep-- especially like last night where I was up so often sorting out crying and fighting, etc. They were all running around to each other's rooms and trying to switch beds. ARGH! Anyway, I hope they sleep well tonight, I need it.

We came home from church and Cocoa (WCB Polish) and a Wyandotte was out running around. I'm ready to build their permanent run! This dog kennel is just kind of tied on and the wind can shift it a bit off the coop and create a spot for them to get thru. At least I have it tied down now so it won't blow away.

Congrats David! He is beautiful! I can't wait until Ellie makes her appearance! Your coop is looking awesome too!

Ivy- I hope your surgery goes well tomorrow. I will be praying for a smooth, and quick recovery.

Danz- I'm glad you got your peahens back!!

To whoever was looking for a LGD, there was a litter posted on the farm page on facebook today. They had females available so you might check it out! Sorry! I can't remember who it is that was looking. Sapphireblu was it you?

Tomorrow is my boys appt. with the pediatric ortho. Hopefully, we can get some answers finally.
