Consolidated Kansas

Oh Trish-- just remembered your post! You can come over any time! Bring a bunny!! LOL Okay-- just kidding, my DH would kill me! But I wouldn't mind getting a bunny for my kids for another 4-H project later on. Maybe in a year or two. I hope you post bunny pics- I want to see!! I love the hairless baby stage! I've saved tiny hairless bunnies that had their eyes closed and released them when they got to be great big hoppy bunnies. (my dog got into their nest and ate all but the two--years ago) Anyway, love that stage, they are so cuddly and sweet and delicate.

I think I may be fighting off something. I have this sunburn that put me under today-- my back is in pain. But then I layed on the couch while the kids watch Toy Story and slept the 2 hours! I woke up to them patting my face and asking for milk. Now I have sinus stuff going on. Sigh, it's always something. My DH is putting them to bed now and I'm going to crash.

Ivy, my thoughts are with you as you head into surgery tomorrow. I really hope for a successful surgery and quick recovery for you.

David - congrats on the grandson - what a great April Fool's present. He is a decent size for being almost 3 weeks early. One of mine was smaller than that and she was full-term.

Hawkeye - the coop is looking great. Sorry the sunburn has kept you from making any more progress on it.

To everyone else...sorry, I'm fried after being outside working all weekend so although I've read the last several pages of threads, I can't remember now who posted what. Hope everyone had a great weekend and has a great week to come!

Long busy day today. DH actually got several holes drilled. Now if we had the posts and the concrete we could be setting the basis for the building and the pens. It was a beautiful day and perfect weather for me.
Trish and her husband came by and took the tour. Things are such a mess here but it was nice to meet him and of course see the new car. Trish has the cutest little dogs. I normally am not a little dog person, but one of her dogs in particular is the sweetest little thing!
The day went way too fast but I am exhausted.

Ivy- Good luck on your surgery today. Praying for a quick easy recovery for you!

Danz- So relieved to hear you caught the peas!

Kidd- What a gorgeous grandson you have there!

tnt- Yes, that was me, I've contacted them as well.

Sounds like everyone was busy yesterday! Hubby and I spent all afternoon outside, working on getting the new coop built. We got the chickens shooed into the big pen through the other door in the coop. Sarge was THRILLED to have new 'playmates', lol. He keeps herding them all together, he doesn't like it when they spread out. He is taking his job very seriously, too. Whenever the wind would blow the brush to the NW of the pen he would start barking, round up the birds in the opposite corner of the pen, and go back to sit and watch, making sure nothing was coming. He's just a natural, I can't get over it ^_^

Then, we got the old pen pulled down and the old coop dismantled. I had a hen that was sitting on a nest of 11 eggs, so I took them in to candle. It looks like they have growth! I made a quick effort to try to find an incubator, but ended up putting some bedding in a pet taxi and putting them in there. I caught the hen I thought was the broody, but wasn't sure, so I put the crate in the pen with everyone else and opened the door before we went in for the night. Hopefully the pup won't bother the eggs and the right hen will find them and sit.

Next, we shoveled manure into the wagon and took it to the garden to be tilled in and Hubby got the old coop's 'floor' tilled under. It was sooooo much easier to level it out than it would have been the way I was going to do it.

We didn't get quite as much done as we were hoping to, but we got the foundation blocks laid. Tomorrow I'm on my own while Hubby's at work. We shall see how my carpentry skills prove. This will be my first time framing anything at all, lol. It seems like it should be straight forward and easy, especially with my 'blue prints', but that usually means something I didn't think of will pop up and slow me down.

Anyway...good morning all! Hope you have a great day!

OH! And Danz- here are some new pics of Sarge for you

Why are my kids INSIDE?!

Sapphire, OMG

Sarge is adorable! That's great that he's picked it up so quickly and taking his job seriously!

I got the ground completely cleared of all the mulch and brush and everything, now the ground it ready to build the pen. My back is hurting. I swear the previous owners put down a ton of mulch, literally a ton. I hauled about 50 wheelbarrows full of it outta that corner, and that corner is only 20x20. I'm so glad that's done. My back couldn't take anymore of it. Sounds like it's going to be a beautiful second half of the week. Yayyyy!! Enjoy your Monday, all!

I'm tickled you posted pictures. I'm very proud of my dogs being naturals. I've got to get Marshmallow in to the vet. She just isn't eating and she looked great when the pups were weaned but she looks worn down and haggard now. She gets that way every summer but it is too early right now. None of the dogs eat well in the heat except the puppy. I think with her it's more the action of chewing on something more than eating! Just about the time I had the crap cleaned up out of the yard we now have another pack rat filling it up with everything she can grab.
I got DH to move the cage that goes in the back of the pickup yesterday and I'm going to put my young turkeys into it. They are old enough they should be ok outdoors. I have to hammer an ugly old dog house that was here when I bought the place back together and that will serve as a temporary shelter for them. Okay, so that's the plan as long as nothing else goes wrong.
Sorry you aren't feeling well Hawkeye. Maybe there are some particular pollens out this time of year that you are allergic to. Or maybe you've just been working too hard lately. Please get to feeling better.
Checoukan, if you are on here please keep us updated on Ivy today.

Karen, Faster sounds like a riot! It's funny how different their personalities can be even when they're so young.

Hawkeye, hopefully it's just a case of hayfever and you'll be over it quickly. Some days I be out doing stuff and it doesn't bother me at all, and other days I think I'm dying. Your brother's coop is looking good, and your garden as well. Did your rosemary come back from last year? Mine never does. The only things that come back every year are the sage, oregano, thyme and chives.

WichitaKidd, I love the barn coop, and congratulations on the cute little grandson!

Ivy, good luck with the surgery.

Sapphire, Sarge is a cutie.

Danz, that's great news about the peas.

We picked up a last minute one-time job Saturday, so it was seven yards we mowed. Yesterday we planted carrots, radishes, rutabagas, turnips and radicchio at the community garden, and all the greens (lettuce mix, kale, chard, spinach, arugula, mache, sorrel and cress) and asparagus at home. All stuff that can be planted in early spring or as soon as the ground can be worked, so I think most will be OK even if there's a freak late frost. We also picked up some shallots that were marked way down, so I planted those this morning at the community garden. We didn't get around to making the pallet planter for strawberries yet because DH wanted to work on getting his motorcycle put back together. I'm headed over to Mom's now to watch a couple of things she has taped and I'm not sure I'll do much of anything else today; I feel lazy and like I want to let my back rest a bit after the weekend. Have a great day everyone!

Just got back from a flying trip to town. My Mom got her feet tangled in the blankets on her bed and fell. She had to be rushed to the doctor. Luckily they didn't find any broken bones. Argh!
I am glad she is ok but now and behind on my projects.

Ok, here is the scoop on Ivy.

My DBIL, sent me a text, and then tried to call. I was driving my pre-school route so I could not answer. Any way, Ivy is out of surgery, and the surgeon said every thing went fine, and she was doing well.

Mike, said as soon as she got out of recovery, he would let me know. That was about 11:15 or so. I have not heard anything from him since, tried to call, but figure he has his phone off.

Anyway, as soon as I find more out, I will let everyone know. I will pm to anyone that wants her room number if they want to send a card.

Been busy with 4H stuff. Trying to get all the numbers figured out for the broiler project. Need more so the chicks get a lot cheeper than they are right now, anybody want to order some. They will be ready to got to freezer camp in about 9 weeks, depending on how big you like your drumsticks

!

Now, if I could just figure out why my computer has decided that everything has to be enlarged 100 time bigger than normal I would be quite happy!!
