Consolidated Kansas

Sharol,
I am so sorry! Hope he is better soon! That is what I had too-- guess I got to the Dr and got treatment faster. No major problems but didn't have any energy or stamina for about 8 weeks. I've lived on a farm for most of my life and have had those dog / larger ticks before but never these tiny things.

I had 3 little deer ticks --- that's what I get for picking gooseberries and forgetting to spray myself. I fell down on the creek bank twice and that is prob when they got me. I didn't find them for 3 days-- they are so tiny they are the size of a pin point. Anyway I began with flu symptoms about 7 days later and a friend told me I had better get to the doctor-- I just thought it was a summer cold at first. But no -- ended up in the hospital for 4 days and taking antibiotics for 3 weeks.

ugh!
I am wanting more guineas and hope one of my chickens goes broody.
Scary!! I pulled a tick off my middle child yesterday. Worried me, because it was obvious that it had spent the night on his head. I've been looking at the spot and so far, I don't see anything odd about the bite. Is there anything that I should be looking for? I can't believe all the ticks I've seen this spring already!

I planted a sage because I killed my old one. It might have something to do with cutting it down to almost nothing and then deciding to relocate it about a week later. I found 19 of the strawberry starts from the ill-fated pallet and planted them in my old washtubs. Maybe a few of them will take off, who knows. I was out running around with my parents, so we stopped by the community garden and I watered there. Everything's looking good.

Hope everyone's having a good evening. I'm off to have dinner with the folks.
Have fun with dinner with your parents! I hope your strawberries survive!

I got the new top on the one rabbit hutch & got them apart today, it's a start.
Sounds like a lot of work! I have so much to do yet on my projects. Sigh. Hope it comes together easily and isn't very difficult.

I'm coming! I'll pm you later. :)

HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY to you mothers here!

OH, Danz-- very exciting that your pen is coming together! Today was a busy day, church and family stuff all day.

Hawkeye,
I had no symptoms until about 7 days later when I thought I was coming down with a cold or the flu. (Flu symptoms are typical for tick diseases) I was so lucky that a friend told me to get to the Dr and have a blood test---- but I still didn't think anything was wrong so I waited another day. I was not feeling better so we went to the emergency room -- I passed out shortly after getting there and they put me in the hospital. I never did have the tell tale red circle rash around the tick bite -- just the flu symptoms.

Went for a little ride on my horse today and upon returning to the barn, our resident peacock, Percival, was displaying for us. I managed to get some photos of him from quite close up:

He's lovely. Our neighbors have peafowl, and I love hearing them through the day.

OH, wow! That's not good! I figured I'd be able to see a spot or something if it were bad. I better call the Dr in the morning and see what he says. The tick bit my boy in two spots close together. There is the scab and blood spot where I pulled it off, and a spot above it where he must have bit (because it's another red spot) and then the one below it. Well, now I'm going to take it a bit more seriously.

GORGEOUS!! And I haven't gotten to go riding at all lately, it's a bummer. I need to have some time to myself. :(
Up and down. This morning they thought his kidneys had failed, and then they came back to life apparently. It is one thing after another. My SIL is frantic. We are all hoping he improves soon.

Sharol
This sounds really bad. I'll say a prayer for him tonight. I'm so sorry and I hope he starts doing much better.

Sharol, I really hope he is doing better by morning. I started writing that post about the peacock and got interrupted, and by the time I hit the 'submit' button it was about 40 mins after I started writing it and I just went back and read and realized I missed almost a whole page of posts from the time I started until I actually posted it and feel bad now to insert this chirpy little post when you're going through this.

Yes, the ticks have been just awful already this year. I had no idea the deer ticks were so tiny though. The kind I see are about 1/8" across and quite easy to catch crawling up an animal leg (if it is light colored). Unfortunately they seem to be very skilled at crawling without disturbing the hairs so I never feel them. I've removed 4 attached already this year and that's 3 more than most years.

Sharol so sorry about your brother in law.
Karen, You are such a wonderful person. I can't believe you are letting a bunch of people invade you like that.
Josie and any one else that lives this direction. I don't have a nice car but if you want to go to Karen's you could ride with me. It's going to take maybe 2.5 hours to get there from my place so we'd need to leave here by 10:30. If any of you want we could meet at BETO if it would make it easier.
I'll write more later. Been a very long hard day.
