Consolidated Kansas

GGGRRRRR! I just lost a long post. I don't know what key my stupid finger hit, but the whole thing is gone, and I don't have time to type another. Maybe I can catch up later.

LOL! Horses are fun when they are healthy! :) I think a mini would be adorable! I wonder where you'd find it a little bitty winter coat, though? Maybe a sheep coat?! I'm interested in this netting-- did you buy the expensive stuff or something cheaper? I'd be interested in the "cheaper".

Hope that will settle your geese right down.
OH poor baby!! And it's a Blue!!! Oh, I LOVE blue!!! Or I suppose it could be a black-- did you order these or are they your own? I don't have any black. So technically, I should say I have BS colors... Bwahahahahaha!!

Next year I want to order a dozen of pure black eggs and see what I get. Looks like you are going to have a bunch of splash. The one on the far right is dark-- could be a light blue? So fun to see them grow out!! I'm glad you got it figured out. Can you put a bit of an ice pack on it? Like that gel stuff? I have these mini packs for small injuries-- they have them in the baby section in WalMart. Maybe you could hold him down on the pack for a bit now and then and see if it goes down and then try to massage it back in? Poor thing, I hope you get him fixed up! I wouldn't have guessed that. I know I haven't had that issue before. Mine have all had other problems and were not eating either. Love the peas!!! So cute! They look like they're saying "Wha, what?!" BTW-- what is the black chick in the feed bowl in front of the broody? That's not a silkie, is it??
I know!!! It is blue, they are from Catdance silkies and she has only blue/splash in those pens. It is really dark blue. I am going to get rid of my blue silkie cockerel and maybe one of these boys will grow into a nicer boy. I just don't like his attitude, he attacks my feet and its just annoying. I have had nicer silkie boys so I have high expectations of them.

The chick in the food bowl is a bantam polish from Jenn. Sadly it is the only polish egg that hatched so Danz is gonna sell me a few polish babies this weekend so it has some friends that look like it! This poor hen is gonna be up to her eyeballs in chicks but she is loving it! She cluck, cluck, clucks and they all come running, its really cute.

Well my SF chick is not getting that much better, I had hoped by now it would be able to at least stand, but no dice. I keep giving it the electrolyte stuff with vitamins mixed in & some vitamin E, but although it seems stronger it still can't balance well enough to stay on it's feet, it just falls over to one side. I'm thinking if it doesn't improve by tomorrow I may have to cull it. I sure hate to because it's a cute little thing, but if it can't stand then it's not going to be able to eat or drink & won't live anyway, so sad. This is the worst one I've ever had, usually if one has some problems they will resolve within a day or so & they're fine, either that or they die first thing. That's the sad part about this one because it seems to have gotten better in some ways & not in others.

Josie, those are cute peachicks! They're pretty good sized, how old are they supposed to be? I would still like to go to see that Legg's guy's farm & all of his birds & maybe pick up a couple. Yours look pretty good & like you say anybody can have issues with so many birds in one place & you could expect some to get picked on. Heck if someone saw my hens right now they would think gosh they look pretty bad, but it's just because I have 3 roosters running loose & one of them is a teenage hormonal freak right now. One of those roosters is going to go in the breeder pen when it finally gets done, which at the rate we're going will be some time in the fall if we're lucky.

My DH asked me today if I had much trouble putting that pen together & I told him why yes I did. Of course he asked me why I didn't wait for him to help me, hmmm I wonder why. I wanted it together before the fall is why. Sometimes I just have to do things myself if I can just to get them done, otherwise they aren't his priority & get pushed back continually. Now I have to figure out how to get it where I want it. I couldn't put the wire on in a confined space, I had to have room to work the wire around the thing, so now I have to move the darned thing where I want it. I'm going to do that before I put any more wire on it though to add any extra weight.

I guess my weekend is pretty shot now because my DH is off & Sat. is going to be shopping & Sunday we're having my granddaughter here again, she just got back from spending two weeks with her grandparents in Texas.

Hey everyone! New to the BYC community, and was just referred to this thread after I posted about changing the chicken ordinance in Rose Hill. If anyone here is from Rose Hill, let me know, as I will be attending the city council meeting this Monday and requesting that the ordinance be reconsidered.

MarximusMG & to BYC! We have one person who is close to you, but not in town. I don't know of any other members on this thread in that area, but you might put your post also on the Where am I where are you part of the forum. We're kind of all spread all over, but mostly concentrated in the central & eastern half of the state. That's great that you're challenging the chicken ordinance, I wish you luck! I wish more people would take on their city council & ordinances as far as chickens & poultry are concerned.

Hooray for the first egg!!!

Avery, that was very nice of your son to do that for her :)

Glad to have you here. I'm not in Rose Hill, but good for you! I hope you can get the ordinance changed :)

Welcome to the Kansas thread!!! Wish I could figure out how to use the blinky thing but I am not that talented! Good luck with your chicken ordinance!

Danz-Here are pics for your granddaughter of the ducklings that her baby will be buddies with! There are four magpie girls and the three call ducklings with the shrink wrapped eggs and unabsorbed yolks, I can't believe how big and healthy they are! Glad I didn't give up on them, they are the sweetest little buggers.

Danz, I still have just the one guinea buckwheating. She started about two weeks ago but still any time I hear a buckwheat I look up and its that same hen. You don't suppose I could have 1 hen and 12 roos do you? Egad.

MarximuxMG!! Glad to have you. Not sure where Rose Hill is, but I'm down in Lacygne. I don't talk much on this thread, but try to at least read now and then to keep up. It's hard, though; this thread moves FAST!

Josie, those are the cutest ducks! Every time I see little ducks it makes me want some, but I just have to restrain myself on that count, I have way too many other projects going on. As it is I may have to build another grow-out pen because the one I have is getting crowded now & I don't even have the new Swedish Flower Hen or Cream Legbar chicks out there yet. At least most of the other chicks are leaving tomorrow, the Ameraucanas anyway, to go live with Chooks & KarenS. Then if I can get rid of the other 5 Welsummer chicks that will just leave my special project chicks & that will be good.

Whew, I got that darned pen moved by myself tonight in the position I wanted it beside the turkey pen! Don't ever let anybody tell you we women can't do anything we put our minds to ladies! Sometimes you just have to get creative to get something done. I got the floor car jack, we have a larger one & put the back of the pen on top of it & then pulled from the front & rolled the thing forward until I could get it in position to back it in there. Then I got in the back & pulled it for awhile & kind of went back & forth until I finally got it in there. Then I had to move a few rocks to take care of low spots & I will have to use some fill dirt we have sitting out there from the coop to fill in a few holes. Then I still have to put the chicken wire over the inside of the pen like I did on the turkey pen & cover the top with wire & a tarp. The gate on this pen isn't wide enough to get my other igloo dog house in there, so I may have to just build them something for a shelter, either that or see if my DH would be able to lift it over the top of the pen, we'll see what I can come up with. My other Ameraucanas don't use their house that much, but I still like for them to have something in case they need it.

Well I had better get busy, I'm expected to have all the lists done tonight for tomorrow's shopping, so I just got in awhile ago from all the outside work, chores & all, & then fed & watered all the bins of chicks inside. Those little Swedish Flower Hen chicks are so darned cute, they come up to me when I open the crate door, they're really friendly little birds & I just love all the colors they come in. I think they're becoming my new favorite breed of chicken.
