Consolidated Kansas

well i just wanted to know what the protien % is in total making sure i am at least at 17% protiens u got me lost lol
The %s I posted will give you 16% protein not counting the protein in the grains so it would be closer to 20%.
Just dropped in to say Happy Thanksgiving to everyone.

I am being a witch. I worked my rear off all day yesterday. Got to bed at 1:00 AM, ack up at 5:00 AM to put the turkey on and do some more prep and cleaning. It's my own fault for being so far behind I guess.
I sure hope no one upsets me today or I will probably cry my eyes out.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!!!!

Karen- So glad you are feeling better and home!!! Take care of yourself.

We are off to feed and water and then to DH's parents for turkey dinner. Hope everyone has a great day!

Hang in there Danz! Cute picture
Hawkeye enjoy the parade!

Vent Post.. They brought home a deer, what timing... taking a deep breath, smile, continue on, cooking Thanksgiving dinner while butchering a deer, I'm not as young as I use to be...
I'm thankful, I'm thankful reminding myself.... I'm thankful & blessed. My main light went out in the kitchen, the type of fixture takes two people and ladders to change the bulbs, hopefully it's not the ballast... oh the timing... Laugh or cry... laughing so far... time to continue on!

Happy Thanksgiving, everybody!

Hang in there, Danz & Kansas Prairie!

Great catch, Trish. Hope she learned a lesson!

Turkey is in the oven, the side dishes will go in when it comes out. My boys are off on a run, dh and dd are watching the parade. I need to get going and get the final details ready to go.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!!

We are doing things easy style. I am still cooking, but taking my time and we will eat at 5:) ish.... It will just be my kids, my dad and I this year at his house so that he can be comfortable. We are thankful for each year we have with him :) Taking dinner to a friend whose mom is on the ICU and delivering cookies and pumpkin bread to some others. Just time to enjoy being together :). Sera has been so excited about cooking and stuffing her turkey :) I am not going to stress over perfection. It is what it is- and it is all good :) My kids health is fairly good, we have good to eat and time to share. I couldn't ask for anything more.

Danz, Prairie, I am sure everyone will live all of your efforts, and if not..... Just laugh :) No need to cry :) We are all thankful for all you do here on Consolidated Kansas! Butchering a deer?? Hats of to you girl!! I squirmed pulling out giblets!!:)

I'm about 3 days behind on reading, I'm sure you have all been very busy too. I didn't even lay down last night until 1:00am and I had to get back up to take pies out at 1:30am and put the ham and turkey in and do a cook/hold setting because I didn't want to get back up until I had to.

Cherwill, I'm sorry you had an rough day, some days are just like that. All of the other pressures this time of year doesn't help any.

PrairieChickens, zazzle sounds really awesome. I think I should check into that. I love designing things but I haven't done anything in that area.

Nope HEChicken, I wouldn't expect too many eggs from Cyrus either. :) I'd love to have your overflow of egg cartons, it sounds like you got an efficient system going though. Those are good ideas. How did you hold up with your cooking? That's so funny about Madge and Ned, I'm still trying to figure out the turkeys too. They are so fun to watch. I don't know what it all means but I think it means something. Hopefully they had some type of a break through and they will live happily ever after. Casper and Colt were displaying like crazy for me today, it's so cool to watch them. That hangy down thing turns all dark red but then after a while it turns blue, I don't know what it means. Then Casper does this stomp and hiss/spit sound and I have no clue what he's doing but he's so serious. He's just walks like he's trying to get attention and that's exactly what he gets.

Thanks for the links chickies-duckies, I opened them so I can read them later.

KansasPrairie, our turkeys aren't going to bed that early, but it does still seem early. I will pay attention to the time tomorrow. That does sound stressful to be cooking a huge meal and butchering a deer at the same time. I hope all is well and settling back down now. The highlight of Thanksgiving is seeing my adult kids, that would motivate me to try to not let the stress get me.

That's just what I was looking for Danz, THANKS. I will keep it handy now. I don't know what BOSS is. I feed the chickens tons of scraps too. The night before last I boiled all of the sweet potato peels for them, there is almost always something I can give them. I don't have their light on yet, that's on my to do list. Are thost cookie sheets the ones that are the same size as the oven rack? I know that the holidays are a special time and all but do you ever think about why we do some of the things we do? I mean, why do we cook more food than what we could possibly eat only to be tired and cranky? Seriously, isn't a sandwich with family special too? Why do we have holidays that are hard to do anyway? Some things us people do are just as silly as the turkeys. For instance, my dd said she's going to not have decorations at her wedding reception because she's going to tell everyone that she took them down so that no one will have to work that hard to take them all back down. We put it all up, we take it all down, we cook it and throw too much away, we clean the house and answer the door with a smile. I just think it would be so much more fun for any day to be a special day, it doesn't have to be a holiday and it doesn't have to be huge to be nice either. Every year, the same thoughts, and every year I do it again.

OMGosh, that's terrible that Karen is so sick. I'm praying.

Trish, it sounds like you had lots of fun. Sorry you lost one while you were gone.

Hi redsox, those are some interesting points I've never thought of. I'm going to follow along. medawinks, I wish I were good at telling the pullets from the roos but I struggle with that all the time too. I can't wait to hear what others say about your pics.

Lizzy, you rock with the percentages! How's it going?

That's AWESOME PrairieChickens!!!! Congrats on selling your awesome mugs.

Karen, I'm so glad to hear that you are back home. I was scared it was meningitis because my son in law just had a run with it after just having the flu. You never know what the flu can lead to. I hope that you are taking it easy.

I'd be more than happy to help you get set up on Zazzle. I've already put together a couple of threads to help those who are new to the site get their bearings, and I do a lot of one-on-one coaching. :)

I just spent two hours looking through adds to see if anyone had anything remarkable for sale, I had wanted to buy this new washer but the pre-Christmas adds said it would be an additional $100 off on Black Friday. That was not the case. Sure glad I didn't get up just with the intent of trying to buy at a bargain. There is no amount of money that would tempt me to go shop in those crowds today!!! I'm very happy to sit at home and semi -relax.
Yesterday went well and the weather was much nicer than I expected. My little two year old granddaughter had a great time playing outside but her most excitement was getting a couple peacock feathers of her own which she used to tickle her pesky uncle Cody with.
Her Mom took a huge handful to decorate with. I didn't think she'd take so many but I have plenty. It actually kind of thrills me because she is one of those very picky expensive tastes kind of people and just the idea that she was thrilled to get a product of the farm thrills me.
Sounds like the weather is going to be the pits. I need to get out and get some heated water bowls rigged up. I forgot to shut the windows on the brooder house last night and I was afraid I was going to lose chicks because of it. I lost one buff laced brahma chick. It hadn't been acting real healthy any way. Not sure what was wrong with it. I've had totally lousy luck with those birds from hatching to now. They just aren't healthy. The worst part is I was dumb enough to pay the money to give the breeder a second try. So I wasted about a $100 on this breeder. Live and learn.
I virtually didn't have much in the way of leftovers. My oldest son and his wife took gobs so there wasn't enough turkey left for another meal. I have dressing, pecan pie, and a couple other things left.
My brined turkey turned out really well. Very moist. I'll bet it would have been even better if I'd had a few more hours to soak it. I guess that will be a new tradition for cooking turkey.
My Dad joined us and seemed to really eat well. I was very happy about that.
I still have dishes to get washed even though it seems I washed dishes for 2 days straight. But I plan to try to relax some today and enjoy the peace and quiet. I am thankful for family but today I am more thankful for an empty house!

I have finally got my internet back and was 200 posts behind so I hope there wasnt anything of importance I have missed if so PLEASE someone clue me in lol.
I lost both my turkey hens on the 20th. We went out to find that the turkeys were out of their pen, and the boys were the only ones around. We searched and called and found nothing. I started seeing little piles of feathers here and there but thought nothing of it. The neighbor acrossed the creek came by asking if I was missing any turkey, I am the only person around this immediate area with turkey. I felt relieved at first and she said " well something dropped a headless white and black turkey in my drive" I sank. My dd and I were the only ones home and that was her turkey. Everyone in the family picked out and indiviualy cares for their turkey and they all are like dogs, they will follow the kids to the bus stop and when they come home they wait at the top of the drive for them. It destroyed my daughter, she decided to go to pick Storm up from the neighbors house though, she said " I have to go get my turkey" I started balling, she is so strong and brave and didnt shed a tear, just helped. When we got home I noticed a pile of black feathers and followed it to the edge of the woods iin the other neighbors yard were I found my ds's black spanish hen laying headless. I called and told him, he is 14 and he said " mom I wish you were here cause I hurt" That killed me. These birds were special and it hurts. We burried them and start looking for signs of what it was. I decided to sit up and wait for the thing and found it is a opossum. It is HUGE, it is eating well. I know it comes up and cleans up around were my feeder sits in the daytime and anywhere else that I put scratch out. I didnt think it could run off with a turkey. The hens were found about 7 acres or more apart. I am horrified.. I need tips on detering them, does anyone have any ideas?

Storm, RIP

Spirit, RIP
