Coop building plans, seeking critique and advice

i was going to save up for a better one, but I lost my job and now I’m Too broke  good thing they don’t seem to mind, because I don’t think I’ll be picking up another job until I’ve graduated months from now

That's a shame, but as long as there is enough space for the chickens, I don't think they mind where they sleep.

My Cockerel slept in a tree (12 feet up) until I managed to coax him into the glasshouse (made of plastic = polytunnel) where he spent his nights (about a month) until we built our coop. See my introduction for an explanation.

Okay...raising nesting boxes and lowering the high roost bar.

Honestly nest boxes can be put pretty much at any height as long as they're lower than roosts, the chickens don't really care so design to suit your needs. If you don't mind bending over or have very little kids who want to help out, floor is just fine. If you're trying to maximize floor space, then elevating or building externally can save some space. I didn't want to complicate mine or deal with adding a landing bar so mine sit on the floor (with little 3" legs to elevate them slightly, as I wanted them removable for cleaning).

their shed is a lot better than the basement, where they were for about 6 months. Now I don’t have to smell them from within the house... we moved them to the basement after they chose to sleep with their friends, the raccoons, in a tree. Geez, we’ve truly come a long way...

I think the shed is fine as a permanent coop. I’d just add more ventilation.
