Coop floor, flies, poop, and stank

I love my sand coop floors and nesting boxes , I even have sand in my poop boards. I scoop poop boards daily , and the floor as needed .

Raw wood is not great when moisture is a possibility, a sheet of linoleum would allow you to spill the waterer and be able to clean it up :)

We have Lino under the sand . Going on five years and other then adding sand innesting boxes/poop boards there is no smell and I love to see my girls dust bathe in the coop when the ground is frozen outside .

Good luck
Have fun, our coops are constantly changing and improving, that’s why we use only screws :)

IF you must keep a waterer in the coop, convert to the Horizontal Water Nipples, no spill & less mess. As suggested linoleum or paint or a deck weather proofing would help keep the wood floor drier & a poop board. PDZ mixed into your pine shavings help with smell. However I a firm believer fermenting feed is the best remedy for stinky poop.

Since I started fermenting my feed, less poop (except in the poop board under the roost they sleep at night), firmer & no stink/flies. That's besides the nutritional benefits. Search in the forum about Fermenting Feed for how to & what others have to say. Here's a link you want to check out .....
