Hey all-

I'm trying to think of a good flooring option for our coop. It's currently wood flooring to prevent predators, but I'm realizing that may not be the best fit. Our girls apparently haven't learned proper dinner manners and spill about 10x as much water as they drink even with horizontal chicken nipples. I'm worried about the floor rotting out quickly as there is constantly a wet spot on the floor beneath the shavings near the waterer. What would you guys use for flooring?

*Side note: I would love to use the Deep Litter Method. Do you think it would be possible to do in our drier climate without dirt flooring?

Is moving the waterer out too the trying as option you're open to? Alternatively, a tray can be placed beneath out in the coop

I'm open to anything :) However, I cannot think of a place that would work unless I moved it outside the coop. I don't think that would work for the winters as I live in Colorado.
Do you think they would just kick over a tray beneath the waterer?

The tray beneath the waterer would probably work if you weigh it down with something like a brick so they can't turn it over. I have an elevated coop with a wood floor, but I've got linoleum tiles on the bottom and plan on using the deep litter method. I'm hoping the linoleum keeps the wood from rotting too quickly.
