will chickens laying age do well eating corn on the cob? they are free range as well

They shouldn't be eating it as their staple food, but as a treat it's fine. They need to be on a layer feed as their main diet.

thanks for the reply, they are still getting layer food, just want them to be more active free ranging so I'm putting some cobs outside the coop in the mornings when they go out
