I had to catch up again. @KDOGG331 , I am sorry to hear about your Red. I know this is hard for you, you seem very tender hearted and I know you care a lot about all your birds. I know you'll do right by him. Sending you big

Right, but can the babies pick it up within the first few days of life going through whatever they go through at hatcheries? Or at say TSC while waiting to be bought? In previous years my TSC had the bins in a big dog kennel so no one can handle the chicks. This year they have the tall tiered thingy, where one could touch a chick while it was eating if they really wanted to because the feeders are on the outside.
Are these areas of concern because we all know those of us who already have chickens love to stand there and watch them in the spring. Or least we did pre-Covid.
I brought 5 hens with me when I moved from my old farm (never any problems there) but they have passed from old age since then and I've only got hatchery ordered chicks, now grown birds, and two adults I got as chicks last spring from TSC.

Thank you!Vodka Cocktail. I use 2 ounces for a bigger bird and less for smaller birds. I tube it. Then with most I just hold them till they die. If it's after 90 minutes, at least they're so drunk they don't notice. I have left a few to go to heaven from their nest. At least it's not violent. I don't mind culling a sad bird. I just hate having to chop their head off.
Right, I know but what about the people handling the chicks? I'm sure they maintain strict bio-protocols...just wondering since after reading the FAQ page it appears to be highly contagious.Babies from hatcheries do not have any contact with mom. Just an incubator.
Thanks, thanks to @seminolewind also, now I'm most likely scaredThank you!
Drifting off in a delirium seems much nicer than some of the other ways I've seen people try and botch.
