Also, are hospital stays really that expensive!? :th

I guess it makes sense. I’ve heard of some people going bankrupt from medical bills cause it’s like $50,000 or even six digits. And that they even charge for ambulance rides!?

My hubby (this was years ago) fell off a ladder while working on cables at a school. They made him take the ambulance because they were afraid of liability if he were allowed to leave on his own and go to the clinic. That ride was $700 - insurance did not cover it. Thankfully he was fine so no other expense other than a copay for doctor visit.

When my father-in-law was needing hospice care recently, my mother-in-law decided to do it at home, partially because he wanted to go home and partially due to cost. She opted for a home care aide and it was like $3000 a day just for the aide (she was really stressed about how quickly it would add up) on top of medicine, equipment rental, nurse visits. I think she said insurance would only covered a certain number of hours and a limited number of days, so she ended up footing about half the home care aide's bill out of pocket.

When it's my time to go I hope I just get pushed off a cliff. :p

Do what you can to get insurance. It may still be to expensive but try.

When I quit my job the insurance (my cost) would have been 1,900 a month with a deductible of $8000. It was cheaper for us (and necessary as that $1,900 was half my income) to go uninsured and cross our fingers.

We were paying for our own insurance coverage for years. At one point it got up to $1600 a month for two... it was more than our rent. :( I don't know how anyone is supposed to afford paying for medical insurance out of pocket long term.

Has anyone actually gotten a stimulus check? I haven't. I read in news that the president is considering a second round of stimulus checks. Doubt I will get one of those either.

We haven't, but we don't do direct deposit for our tax returns (govt doesn't need my bank account info, thanks). I heard that for the mailed ones they're sending them out based on income from the previous year, which means... geez, I don't know. Didn't make all that much last year.

I see so many people getting ISA browns because of Covid-19, and I know the ISA brown has been around for a while. but it just seems so... new. Like the naming is new. I remember buying the exact same looking hens labeled plainly as red sexlink. I haven't seen ISA Browns for sale until this year. I bought two and they look like my old red sexlinks now that they've matured. I know they are the same hybrid, just a different name, but it seems so pointless.

There's golden comets, red stars, red sexlinks, gold sexlinks, isa browns, production reds (production reds usually lean more on the RIR side but i do see your typical red sexlink being marketed as one)... all the same bird... I don't get the point of so many buzzwords. Does it drive up sales switching them around every year? I guess so.

Just something stupid that's been on my mind lol

Some of the different names exist because some hatcheries own the right to the name to their specific hybrid combo, so other hatcheries can't use it.

And there's probably some marketing involved too. Some names sound "fancy" - like "Midnight Majesty Marans"... would people be as inclined to buy them if they were named "Marans Production Hybrid"?

It probably does have some to do with marketing. I don't know why but they look like such mediocre hens to me :gig I still respect them as members of the flock, but it's funny to see them labeled so regally as "Cinnamon Queens"

Spot the difference! I'm sure there's different breeds mixed in but it's funny seeing them sold like this. I don't see black sexlinks being labeled so many different times like red sexlinks, I only know black stars as the other variant.

Yeah I admit when I first started out and was researching breeds, something like "Cinnamon Queen" sounded so exciting lol, like I was expecting a regal, fiery red bird. Or a "Golden Comet" you'd think would have a long streaming gold tail.

Alas, the names just sound cool.

Like look at how housing developments are named. Vista Heights, Meadowlake, Skyview Estates... is there really a better "sky view" at Skyview or Vista? Is there a lake or meadows in Meadowlake? Or is it all marketing...

Going to post in a few places....Glad I got my sister home from the nursing home before anything could get started there with the virus. A few nursing homes have it going through. She's in transition now. Only a short time left. Glad I could have her here to spoil her. I'm going to miss that sweet giggle of hers. Prayers that this part can go smoothly for her..she's had it more rough than some having stopped dialysis. 5 weeks yesterday. Keeping her sleepy. This is hard.

Here masks are required.....but I understand those poor souls at the front doors dealing with all the abrasive, abusive crap from unmasked people getting in their faces not being to forceful about it.

Saw that happen the other day. :(
Adults acting like children. People are really ignorant and don’t care about others.
