My one Australorp roo, who I had been trying to find a new home for, is starting to look pretty good. I've decided to keep him from both a tasty meal and reproduction point of view.
Lucky for him he's still terrified of me, though he's about to hit 1yro and might turn into a total snot in 3...2....1....

This has been reported as false information.
Pathogens don't act one way in one country and another way in another country. There's something else going on in Italy. I would really like to see the data regarding who the younger people are in the ICUs. Are they being tested for latent TB? Co-infection of latent TB with a virus is 5 times more fatal than either illness alone, and the morbidity is probably much greater than 5x. The symptoms of WuFlu and TB are identical.

A recent study found that 56.5% of TB cases in Italy were among 18-44 year-olds; 70% of those were immigrants, so 40% of TB cases in Italy were in 18-44-year-old immigrants, who more than likely brought it with them when they emigrated from their home countries that have endemic TB. Italy is having a real problem with TB because of that. Italy's WuFlu hotspot is in the north, which is where most immigrants live.

There is so much more to epidemiology than just numbers.
I'm sorry but what is WuFlu?

Regarding the remark about the “low” death rate from this Coronavirus: what rock are you living under? This virus is in many cases deadly and for those who survive, their long term outcomes are unknown. The scary thing about this virus is it is highly contagious many who do contract it are asymptomatic and pass it to others. The thinking that it is not serious because it’s not killing everyone who gets it is sadly immature. Sorry, I had to vent.

UPS, FED-X, and Amazon are running heavily making deliveries in my neighborhood.
I am alerted each and every time by the coon hound. She is SURE they are bringing boxes from Chewy....because ALL boxes come from Chewy.

I am grateful that they are still making deliveries.
Even if it means I need ear plugs. :lau

Not sure if any like this has been shared here yet. I didn't read through all 139 pages in this thread, lol, but my RN friend shared this and it helped to better explain things for me.

It's getting very real where I live in Georgia and there is a curfew only a couple hours from where I am. While we have been extremely careful due to health issues in the family I now know someone that has been exposed, it's not just stories through the grapevine anymore. I hope everyone stays safe and well! Hopefully this passes sooner than later so we can get back to our comfortable lifestyles!

Quote in spoiler for those that don't want to read it:

THIS IS NOT LIKE THE SEASONAL FLU

Feeling confused as to why Coronavirus is a bigger deal than Seasonal flu? Here it is in a nutshell. I hope this helps. Feel free to share this to others who don’t understand...

It has to do with RNA sequencing.... I.e. genetics.
Seasonal flu is an “all human virus”. The DNA/RNA chains that make up the virus are recognized by the human immune system. This means that your body has some immunity to it before it comes around each year... you get immunity two ways...through exposure to a virus, or by getting a flu shot.
Novel viruses, come from animals.... the WHO tracks novel viruses in animals, (sometimes for years watching for mutations). Usually these viruses only transfer from animal to animal (pigs in the case of H1N1) (birds in the case of the Spanish flu). But once, one of these animal viruses mutates, and starts to transfer from animals to humans... then it’s a problem, Why? Because we have no natural or acquired immunity.. the RNA sequencing of the genes inside the virus isn’t human, and the human immune system doesn’t recognize it so, we can’t fight it off.
Now.... sometimes, the mutation only allows transfer from animal to human, for years it’s only transmission is from an infected animal to a human before it finally mutates so that it can now transfer human to human... once that happens..we have a new contagion phase. And depending on the fashion of this new mutation, thats what decides how contagious, or how deadly it’s gonna be..
H1N1 was deadly....but it did not mutate in a way that was as deadly as the Spanish flu. It’s RNA was slower to mutate and it attacked its host differently, too.
Fast forward.
Now, here comes this Coronavirus... it existed in animals only, for nobody knows how long...but one day, at an animal market, in Wuhan China, in December 2019, it mutated and made the jump from animal to people. At first, only animals could give it to a person... But here is the scary part.... in just TWO WEEKS it mutated again and gained the ability to jump from human to human. Scientists call this quick ability, “slippery”
This Coronavirus, not being in any form a “human” virus (whereas we would all have some natural or acquired immunity). Took off like a rocket. And this was because, Humans have no known immunity...doctors have no known medicines for it.
And it just so happens that this particular mutated animal virus, changed itself in such a way the way that it causes great damage to human lungs..
That’s why Coronavirus is different from seasonal flu, or H1N1 or any other type of influenza.... this one is slippery AF. And it’s a lung eater...And, it’s already mutated AGAIN, so that we now have two strains to deal with, strain s, and strain L....which makes it twice as hard to develop a vaccine.
We really have no tools in our shed, with this. History has shown that fast and immediate closings of public places has helped in the past pandemics. Philadelphia and Baltimore were reluctant to close events in 1918 and they were the hardest hit in the US during the Spanish Flu.
Factoid: Henry VIII stayed in his room and allowed no one near him, till the Black Plague passed...(honestly...I understand him so much better now). Just like us, he had no tools in his shed, except social isolation...
And let me end by saying....right now it’s hitting older folks harder... but this genome is so slippery...if it mutates again (and it will). Who is to say, what it will do next.
Be smart folks... acting like you’re unafraid is so not sexy right now.
#flattenthecurve. Stay home folks... and share this to those that just are not catching on.

I'm sorry but what is WuFlu?

Wuhan flu. A racist name for Corona. Synonyms China Flu, Chinese Virus, etc etc. See also; The history of the 1918 Spanish Flu (called such because media was forbidden on reporting on it in allied countries, meaning they could only report on it being in Spain leading to a lot of racism against Spaniards at the time).

WHO banned the use of naming viruses after specific peoples or areas because then those people are likely prone to face racial backlash for just existing, even if the virus isn't especially prominent there. So best to stick to its real name.

Meanwhile, China is actually getting things under control.

Would you mind sharing the recipe or a little more about the custard? My kiddo is super allergic to milk so we are an almond and coconut milk family. I make a semi custard semi tapioca that uses a lot of eggs, but have yet to try a traditional custard because I'm basically using the tapioca in place of the corn starch and I don't have to bake it.
I tried dutch babies with mixed results, but those are on my list to work on.

No problem!
  • 4 large egg yolks
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups whole milk (OR any fatty milk substitute, I used full fat canned coconut milk!)
  • 1 Tablespoon vanilla
  • 4 Tablespoons butter , cut into tablespoon sized pieces (optional if using coconut milk. Might be able to sub for a little coconut oil)
  1. In a medium sauce pan, whisk together the eggs, sugar, cornstarch and salt until well combined and no lumps remain. Then whisk in the milk until well combined. Heat the mixture over medium-high heat for 1 to 2 minutes (Longer for coconut milk), or until thickened. Remove from heat and whisk in the vanilla.
  2. Next add in each piece of butter separately, whisking until completely melted before adding the next piece. Pour the hot mixture on top of your cooled tart crust and place a layer of plastic wrap directly on top. Refrigerate for two hours, or until custard is chilled through.

This is the recipe I used with my lactose/dairy free notes on it. It came from this source and I just altered it.
