I think, and please CC correct me if I'm wrong..but I think @ChickenCanoe wasn't putting anyone down for taking medications that ones needs for true health ailments and conditions.
At least that is not how I read it. I think in general we are an over medicated society because some drug companies are in the business of making money...not saving lives.

Many "medications" exist because people don't eat healthy, exercise, or take decent care of themselves. Too many in fact. It's easier to ask the doctor, for example, to get a script for viagra just because. Some people really do have an ED issue, but I'm betting more than half of those in possession of an ED drug aren't taking them for proper reasons.
Allergies, intolerances, and GI issues...something I know a LOT about... are another area where it's easier to take a medicine that to get an allergy test, GI tests, try an elimination diet to find the cause of ...headaches, rashes, upset stomach, bowel issues, growth issues, memory issues, upper respiratory problems, etc...
Some of those conditions are true and real but some are created by external or environmental issues, like diet, and other solutions can fix them.

When kiddo was little, and Momma intuition told me something wasn't right...the Peds just wanted to prescribe medication after medication and told me I was crazy when I said I think there's an allergy somewhere and there are GI issues.
Back and forth for months and he would not write a referral. Any referral.
So, every week I took kiddo in with some new problem. Took about 2 months of camping out on the doorstep and telling the Peds I was not going to go away before he finally sent the allergy referral to shut me up.

Turns out, we walked out of the allergist's visit with a list of 35 allergies. And that was just the first visit. Diet changes because of having the right information made a HUGE difference in kiddo's health. Gigantic!
Return Peds visit saw the firing of that Peds and started seeing another one. Immediately got the referral to GI specialist and turns out kiddo had major GI problems too.

Anyway, if I had listed to the one peds, I would have continued to have a very sick child being pumped full of medications that were not doing what kiddo needed. Instead, got to the root of the problem and got the correct medications. Epi-pens to save kiddo's life, GI meds and treatments, and other life long meds to save kiddo. But it took digging to get there and not blindly taking whatever meds the first Peds insisted upon.
Some Docs are golden and see things in a more holistic way and other docs certainly are not. They think everything is fixed with a medication and don't bother to try finding the root cause.

Plenty of people truly need medications to save them from fatal conditions. Some people need medication to replace things their bodies don't make. Some people have to take medications to correct the imbalances n their bodies that their environment has caused (chemicals, nutritional depletion from our soils, thus nutritional deficient foods, exposure to harmful things at work places, hidden toxins,....ect)
But some people could be better off taking better care of themselves and stop eating drive through food instead of turning to medications to fix something they are creating.

I honestly don't think CC was trying to ruffle feathers. Those not in our shoes can't really understand what it is like to be in our shoes.

Edit- I'm sure typos abound today. I ain't even gonna try.

I think I love you! ❤❤❤

True enought, my suggestion for vinegar was a form of mild sanitizing considering it's been said to of not been used in a long arse time. And no model/make info has been previously posted.

I use this DW daily. And I don't understand how putting a cup of vinegar in it will reveal where the leak is coming from. I'll post make and model tomorrow.

So I gotta ask. Do you recall the sit-com "Alice" from the 80's? That hair style & color made me think of Flo from that series. She was an absolute hoot! (Hope you can appreciate the visual nugget)

I didn't watch it, but I'll look it up, thanks! 😉

Oh Yay I finally caught up, I've been trying for 3 days to catch up omg

I have to say something to this too, not mad or upset at all and I understand that maybe the whole topic was brought up for a different meaning. I'd like to share some of my experience maybe that will help others understand what this is like. I'm also on a maintenance medication. There's a 90% mortality rate if I don't take it. Trust me I'd rather not be on it because I do NOT want any of the horrible side effects that it can potentially cause. But I definitely want to try to live longer than the 10 year maximum life expectancy if I don't take it.

I also do not enjoy being on medications, the fewer the better I say because the risks increase as well. At one point I think they had me on like 4 and was happy when I could come off of those others but it's possible I still need to be on something like estrogen (sigh). I'm also on extra supplements because my body doesn't absorb vitamin D or B12 like it should and even those supplements don't work very well for me. I have lupus SLE, graves, maybe hashimotos I gain weight like crazy or (rarely) lose it from thyroid issues and it drives me crazy because doctors don't understand nor do they really care to try to understand what's going on, maybe celiac, sjorgens/sicca, raynauds, PMLE, some kind of freaking weird painful psoriasis that comes up on the palm side of my fingers. Really weird stuff happens with my body and I just have to deal with it. I had adenomyosis and a hysterectomy, it was one of those low risk 3% chance conditions you can have from a c-section yay lucky me but it also took 3 gyno doctors, 10 years, multiple ultrasounds, and constant anemia showing up on my blood work from the rheumy's office to finally arrive at a diagnosis on that one thing.

My friends have asked me many times over the years "have you looked at diet/exercise/chiropractor to control this". And I want to scream cause I'm like don't you think I'm trying and am always trying to figure it out? You think I can make a few changes or take an herb and it just magically solves everything, afford to keep a chiro in business because it may help? Take the psioriasis for example sunlight is supposed to help but sunlight flares my lupus and PMLE. Then take my parents for example who don't understand there are days when I just do not feel well at all, they think I can just work through it ignore the pain and discomfort just keep going and to many extents I do. It's just that they don't feel what I physically feel and otherwise I look healthy therefore they do not understand it. When you don't have health issues the "answers" may seem simple but in reality many of the answers are not and it is a very difficult and long struggle for many people from dealing with doctors, dealing with finding a diagnosis, dealing with finding the right treatments and lifestyle changes but also dealing with people who think they know better. If what works for someone means treating them with multiple medications and they're fine with that and so are their doctors then so be it.

Ok done oops another book.

Nobody has a right to judge you. :hugsYou just take care of you!

I didn't say a cup. I didn't say how much for a reason as I had other details in my head at the time ......
