Well. I braved walmart early today and it was packed with folks filling carts to overflowing. No cleaners, bleach, TP or paper towels. Water is gone. I don't shop the aisles much but needed a few things like salt and flour. Well, sugar flour and cornmeal were gone. No rice, a little pasta. 4 boxes of instant potatoes remained. The canned food aisle looked picked over but was loaded w/shoppers. Crazy. Good luck to everyone out there. Stay safe.

These are the masks I use when making soap. Why? Because lye added to water does put off-gases and they are harmful to breathe. And most hospitals use cheap paper masks. The shortage on the N95 is because the hospitals are trying to get all the N95s they can all of a sudden.

My favorite canned soup was gone. But all the other soup seemed normal.

I don't think it is just panic. I think this is what it looks like when most of America doesn't have even a 2 day complete supply of their household needs. When suddenly the whole population is faced with the need to isolate for a week or longer even normal purchases can overwhelm a store. Combine that with delayed shipments, deliberate withholding of stock, closed manufacturing, no imports, media hype, etc. And it becomes a perfect storm.

The high end grocery near us was stripped bare this week. Shipments of even fresh foods are delayed and everyone is trying to get in their shopping NOW before they have to stay home. They were out of everything from bread and potatoes to leafy greens. The normal grocery was picked over but seemed well stocked on the same day.

We have had infected people come back into this country with Ebola. Did it spread? No.
It is a deadly and highly contagious disease, but with proper quarantine, it can be contained.

The government screwed the biosecurity by allowing travelers citizens and noncitizens to come into the US after it was clear it was spreading. Back in January, they knew it was spreading out of China and instead of staying if you are out of the US to stay there and wait it out. They brought back ambassadors and allowed people to continue to travel in and out.

This is a 100% failure on the part of the government to do what is best for the people of this country. If they had shut everything down and not allowed any travel in and out back in January we would not see what we are seeing now.

One of my favorite quotes is "A person is smart. People are dumb, panicky, dangerous animals and you know it." It is true. You can reason with a person. People no amount of reason will help.

Just keep in mind for your own peace of mind that there are reasons people cough that have nothing to do with contagious disease. I have asthma. My lungs constantly produce a sort fo slime. I have to cough -- and cough very hard sometimes -- but no one is ever going to catch asthma. There are also allergies and other respiratory issues which endanger the coughing folks but not anyone in their surroundings.

It's going to be interesting seeing how this affects the customary greeting here in Spain which is a kiss on both cheeks.

We now kiss on the back or the top of the head or, in my husband's case, on the bald spot.

All the rain we have been getting has my allergies going insane. Runny/Stuffy nose, cough due to choking on the sinus drainage, and rather noisy breathing through my nose. People are giving me space though. Sometimes I cough just to get people to move. LOL

China didn't even begin quarantining until a month after the Chinese doctor blew the whistle that something was wrong. So by that time it had probably spread over most of the world. China is in about every country working on their Belt and Road Initiative. Can't contain something that has already spread before you even have the means to detect it. Also, it's impossible to contain a contagion that is infectious while asymptomatic, unless you have the means to test everyone continuously., which we didn't and don't.
